Can someone compare and contrast any osteopathic EM programs that you have experience with or have heard anything about? Is the level of competitiveness in the DO programs the same as the MD ones? What kind of chances does someone who barely beat the mean on the COMLEX have in the DO match for EM? Thanks!

The DO match seems to be way more about who you know, and who you can sweet talk into letting you in. Its also about performance in person on an audition rotation. I have heard that unless you have top10% boards and grades that literally every specialty is open to everyone who knows how to play the game. It seems to be the "top DO students" who have to compete more based on their real world people skills and for some that is tough  It seems to actually be a more fair system because you see a lot of grade and board score distribution in all specialties to some degree. I bet Dr. Mom can comment way better than I can though.

Most DO EM programs require or heavily weigh your audition rotation. That seems to be similar to many other DO specialties, though.

There were around 30 DO EM spots open after the match this year. There aren't any open in my state & I didn't look into where they were so I don't know if it was a location issue vs quality of program vs the fact that you have to do a 4 year program.

Is there a list of those programs with open spots? I'm just curious...

FYI DrMom: Last week the Morningstar group/Southwest medical center peeps came to our school. Nice folks. I hadn't given Oklahoma much thought, but now it is on my list of places to watch for.

Yup, they're a good program. The Morningstar group makes offers to hire quite a few of my program's graduates, too. We've had a few take the offers and they seem happy with the group. 🙂
