I've been to the AOA website for the match and read what I can but there are some things I'm not clear on...

1) Is the AOA match only for OGME-1 and linked spots?

2) If you get a OGME-1 spot through the match do you have to apply to individual programs for an OGME-2 spot or is there a match?

3) What about matching to an OGME-1 internship AND an ACGME PGY-2 residency spot? Does this routinely happen?

If anyone has any answers to these queries I'd be happy to hear them...
Thanks

Great questions. The AOA doesn't help us any by clarifying these things.

1, 2) pretty sure the match is only TRI and linked programs. if you look at "opportunities" match list they only list those. you then apply to individual residency programs during your TRI (opporrtunities - "residency", not "internship". i would definitely contact each individual program you are applying to to confirm this because things can change year to year, ie a program may become linked next year, or..."oh, we don't use the standardized application form, so therefore we do our own match..." or some other bs that tends to happen with AOA programs.

3) yes, that happens quite a bit. again, contact the individual acgme programs to confirm that they will accept the aoa tri - they usually/always do. go through the aoa match for your tri, then the md match for res. or if you want to stay in the same geographic area for both, sit out the aoa match, do the md match and scramble for an aoa tri in that area- could be risky depending on circumstances.
DO NOT enter the aoa match for tri if your first choice is an acgme pgy 1-4 program b/c you will get kicked out do to overlap of first yr. if you will be ranking both acgme pgy 2-4 and pgy 1-4 programs, bypass the aoa match get your acgme res. and scramble for aoa tri if necessary (if you match 1-4 then you are done and have no need to scramble).
