I am currently an intern and would like to apply for orthopedics, unfortunately i cant do any out rotations at my current program. Are there any osteopathic ortho programs that will even consider interns? I would be fully willing to repeat my intern year

i am in an osteopathic ty program in chicago that does not have a ortho program. i have been published 3x in ortho journals. scores and rank are average. Interviewed at 3 DO ortho programs last year. pple I know are all on the MD side. My question is if there are any ortho programs that in the past have taken interns before. I am aware there is a funding issue

Why did you not try to snatch a TY spot at one of the hospitals with osteo ortho spot? Plenty of them are open, I know someone who matched this year after doing a TY at that hospital.

what hospital did they match at? i did contact a few of the open osteo ty spots at programs i interviewed ortho at initially but they said doing an intern at there hospital would not change things much. Do you know of places that take interns?

You probably could have tried your luck at programs where you didnt interview. Its not easy obviously but its been done before. The programs you interviewed at probably were firm on their decision on not taking you. I Know someone who did this at Olympia Fields. They didn't match right out of 4th year, did an intern year there and spent every day they had off with Ortho and got a spot the following year.

Broward General this year also took a guy who's completed a family practice residency. He hung out with orthos all the time though.

What programs did you rotate and interview at if you don't mind me asking?
