I am applying to both AOA and ACGME IM programs and took both comlex and USMLE step 1 and step 2.
However am not happy with my USMLE scores and do not wish to show them top programs. I understand that i have to request my USMLE transcript because thats part of the policy but should I be selecting No to authorize the relase as well. I am going to select NO for the automatic release but was confused about the first question. Someone at my school told me that I would have to request the transcript but not assign it to any programs but how does that work if for some reason i selected yes to authroize the release what does that exactly show to programs?
Thanks!

From what I understand, you have to release your USMLE scores regardless if you want to or not. I don't think you can hide them from top programs.

so i have to click yes to the first answer to authorize the release? what exactly would programs see at this point? if i dont assign them to any programs will they not see the transcript just that i took the test?

The policy is worded poorly, but you are required to release your USMLE transcript (if you have one) if you apply to ACGME programs.

What if you apply to the DO side of a dual accredited program? I selected a few dual programs listed as "Osteo" on ERAS. Do I need to submit USMLE to them as well?

It's not totally clear, since this is one of the changes in ERAS this year. Last year, applicants would self report what steps they had taken and when, and then also released a transcript. This year, applicants do not self report -- not clear all we get is the transcript (when released) or whether the dates of the exams are listed on the application.

No.

I e-mailed ERAS and asked if we had to release USMLE scores to MD programs after releasing it to ERAS. Their reply:
"Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your email. ERAS does not have any requirements for applicants. Please contact the programs you are interested in applying to and make sure you have met their requirements. Please keep in mind that each program may have different requirements.
For further information you can contact the ERAS HelpDesk at 202-862-6264."

Not very helpful.

There may be an interesting twist to this, though. One of the changes to ERAS this year is that applicants no longer have to list their exam attempts. Last year, you would manually enter when you took each step, and whether you passed / failed / were awaiting a score. This year, it's somehow entered automatcially from your transcript.

That means that, PERHAPS, since you must release your USMLE transcript to ERAS, that they will take that information an enter it on your CAF. So, if you don't release your USMLE transcript to me, I MIGHT still see the dates of the exams without scores. Then again, I might not. I have no idea, since this is a new process. I'll let you know on Sept 15th, or just afterwards.

Again, I am guessing here. I have no inside information.

Wow..that's strange. Thx for the insight on this one from the other side of the application.

I'm not withholding my scores, but I know a few people who might want to.
