It seems like there are quite a few DO students/residents that post on sugery forums. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many D.O.'s enter allopathic surgery residencies and D.O. surgery residencies each year?
...Are there a lot of D.O. surgeons out there practicing, and I just didnt realize it?

There's 188 total DOs in allopathic general surgery programs; about 240 total if you add surgical subspecialties, according to JAMA data released last week. The DO programs don't release as detailed stats, so you'd have to go program by program on the website and count it up yourself. If choose to do so, report back with your findings.

I have personally dealth with two Orthapedic Osteopaths who did most of the work at Hollywood Memorial (A major center here in Broward County in S. Fla). One was the chief of Orthapedics.

The Chief of Transplant Surgery at the hospital I did research for this summer is a D.O. Smart dude and good surgeon from what I hear.
