As a long time member of the OSU deferred list, I was hoping to get a feel for how many SDNers where put on the list and if and when they were finally accepted.

DoctorNick83: Deffered-10/16; Sent LOI, still waiting for change

Guys,

According to the rule that all schools must have a full class of acceptance given out by march 15th, doesnt deferred basically at this point mean, that we are on a waitlist, and we will not get in unless someone gives up an acceptance, so in reality, we are waiting for a decision about the waitlist?

Not true. Schools fill their class probably midway through the application season, but remember that they always offer 2x the actual # of spots just because they expect people to withdraw their acceptance. Is it possible to get a spot? Yes. Is it plausible? No. All of us will probably be placed on the waiting list.

i was deferred 2/27 have you had any status change after that LOI? goodluck

I just joined the deferred club, so I thought I'd bump this.

hey folks,

just got an e-mail from OSU with a Word attachment asking whether i would want to "remain on the alternate list." i attached the file to this post.

i think it's reasonable to say that if you're still deferred, you're now a waitlistee (i.e., on the alternate list).

Attachments

just got that too.

Has anyone got accepted off of the deferred list? I'm hoping there is some chance still. I also got the form to say I want to be on the waitlist, so hopefully some movement will result after May 15th. I need write my LOI. I hope a lot of people decide to not go to OSU so there is a lot of movement on the waitlist. haha.

I figured that if we haven't heard anything by now, we won't hear anything until after May 15th.

I think we can all rest easy. OSU takes many, many students off of the deferred list, so I'm not very nervous... yet.

Any new news?

Doesn't seem like it. This is the one I'm really hoping for. I'm afraid of calling and being be told that:

1. The waitlist won't move much this year

2. It's moving, but I suck

🙁

Man, it's going to be depressing when someone posts about the first acceptance here...

Hypo, where did you hear that OSU takes many students off the deferred list? I sure hope that's true. Currently I'm happy with the acceptance I'm holding but OSU was far and away the school I was most impressed by on my interview day.
I called the admissions office early this week and was told that the class size hadn't dropped below 210 yet, so no one has been taken off the waitlist. I have no idea when OSU generally takes people off the waitlist, but I'd love to be one of the lucky ones.

From past years. It seems like they take more than half of the waitlist.

So no one has heard of an acceptance off the deferred list this year?

I know of someone who was waitlisted last year and never got in, but I'll assume he was in the minority....

I called the front desk and they said that they will have a ranked waitlist by the beginning of June. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get on the High Priority section.

It seems like waitlist movement was incredible in 2005 and the years before, but things slowed down in 2006. I think we're looking at a repeat of 2006... many of us may still be accepted, though.

Yeah, this process sucks. I need some ice cream.

Thanks for the info.
Do you think they'll send out an email when they have a formal waitlist? Or we will have to contact them?

I think it would be best just to call rather than hoping that they will do us any favors.

Called today, they have not dropped below 210 acceptances. This does not look good for the rest of us.

Ouch!

Well, thanks for the info Dr. Nick.

shouldn't we be getting an email from them about our position on the waitlist? maybe i was freaking wrong but i thought so

The email said they would give us an idea of where we are on the wait list in June or early July.

It will happen, or at least that's what I was told by the admissions office. Movement is "on par" with last year, according to OSU... they definitely expect to turn to the alternate list.

This is US News' fault.

Any of you mind calling and finding out how close to movement OSU is? I've had bad luck over the phone recently and don't want to jinx us. 😉

I sent the Admissions office an email. I was told that very few people have withdrawn:

"We have not started to call from the deferred list as of today and I don't anticipate we will for the next few weeks. We have had very few people withdraw the last couple weeks. The Admissions Committee has not ranked the deferred list in any order and I don't think they will look at it for at least two or three weeks."

In summary: 🙁

Well, who wants to make the almost certainly depressing update request call? :luck::luck::luck:
