OSUCOM has started interviewing. However, I haven't heard anything form them regarding an interview. I was offically complete there on July 6th. I was probably one of the 1st students to complete my secondary there. I have heard of many others who are interviewing there on the 14th, 15th, etc. I am not an OK resident but would really like to attend OSUCOM. I have pretty decent stats and awesome ECs. But still, I haven't heard a thing. I know they only accept <15 non-residents. Should I be worried?

Here are my #'s
(according to AMCAS)
overall GPA: 3.64
I screwed up my first semester as a freshman (although there were no F's), but retook all my classes and got all A's after I returned from my mission(funny what 2yrs in a 3rd world country will do). My transcript shows a 3.65
BCPM GPA: 3.59
AO: 3.68
MCAT: 26M --> weak!! I know

Extracurricular:
-200+ hrs ER volunteer
-Almost 2 yrs working as a PCT (Patient Care Tech) --> I'm basicially a glorified CNA, the only difference is I also do Phlebotomy, so they give me a much cooler title.
- At the tender age of 19 I traveled to Bolivia for 2 yrs as a missionary (2001-2003) It was awesome by the way!!! included religious proselyting and lots of community service. Completely fluent in Spanish and I speak Aymara too (an Indian dialect form Bolivia)
- 2005 American Heart Association Summer Undergraduate Internship Awardee
(Cardio Research w/ pacemakers, and pacemaker protocols, it was in collaboration w/ Guidant corp. (i.e. the bigtime!) about 600hrs total --> I also co-authored a paper. (PUBLISHED)
- Lots of other community service (i.e. Habitat for humanity, Peer tutoring for underclassmen/disadvantaged high school students. and more) ~100+ hrs
- Organic Chemistry Lab Instructor - 4 hrs/wk since April
- Anatomy Lab T.A. --1yr. (slicin' & dicin')
- Vice President of Pre-Med club at my school.
- Shadowing MD & DO ~50+ hrs
- Dean's List
- Above all I'm married and have one kid. (Bein' a dad is tough work!!!)
- There's more but I won't bore you to death...

Not yet, they just got started interviewing.

I guess you could always call or email to check and let them know you are still interested. Relax, I am sure it will be fine.:luck:

Heh...I haven't even received a Secondary from them...probably wasted the AACOMAS money it appears...

You have to go on their website to get it anytime. They don't screen pre-secondary. Everyone is invited to complete the secondary application and send in your supplemental materials. $25 supplemental fee. Sorry you didn't get that info beforehand.

You should have got a letter from them if you qualify. You know how snail mail is, it may have gotten lost. As the above post says, they don't send a secondary now, you download it.

Interesting, I have gotten NO communication from them. Perhaps I'll give them a call.

I would definitely check with them. I am sure that applications really can get lost. I would confirm that they have everything and that you are complete.:luck:

Are you from Oklahoma? OSU starts out interviewing only in-state students. They go by most complete, in-state and then stats. And yeah, they should have sent you a letter saying that you were complete there. I would make sure everything is there. Losing app stuff has happened to tons of people, so I would definitely call. OH, and by the way - a 26M is not weak, that is exactly what I have, and I got one of the first interviews. If you're not in-state, that's probably the reason.

Good luck!

Yeah I'm outta state. I did call in July and they confirmed completion. I have also talked with them many times since then, but still no invite. I am kinda gettin' frustrated. I really want to go to OSU over all the D.O. schools I've applied to. They just seem to have it all together. Research opportunities, awesome clinicals/affiliated hospitals, and a good curriculum as far as I can tell too. All I need is that invite!!!😡

ScootDoc,
I just sent you a PM

My advice is to keep calling them and checking. They are definitely the type of school that appreciates an avid interest, and the more times they have to look up your application, the bigger chance they'll have of remembering you. The class size was just expanded from 88 to 98, and they only take %10 of their students from out of state. It's just a hard school to get into for an out-of-stater. But just be persistent, and I'm sure they'll give you an interview!

This is what this poster said about DO schools:

Yes, some of us actually use Osteopathic schools as backups, just in case we don't get in to a US MD school. I am more than willing to admit it. Unlike you bma who could only dream of even getting an interview at an osteopathic school. Enjoy the island, your 13 MCAT score, 2.0 GPA, and then your 180 USMLE step 1 score. Yeehaw!!!!!

Hmmm... FMG tryin to pimp a US student...Thats funny ****!!!

So he doesn't think much of DO and wants me, a Caribbean student to stop posting in the Caribbean forum. I think DO is fine and should not be considered as second place to anything. I know it's different than MD in some ways and have posted as such.

Heres a link to post. Just thought I'd let you know since they gave me grief.

Sometimes you can't hide the truth.😡

Well, a 26 is below OSU's average, and you're oos, so you're not going to be the first person they'll interview. Also, supposedly their adcoms read this board, so you might want to tone down the jerk thing. OSU can lay claim to one of the biggest SDN a&&holes ever, but at least he kept his mouth shut until after he was admitted.

I do not usually post outside Nontrad and Caribbean forms, because I'm both, just posted the above post so people here knew what they where doing in the other forum in public, just not in your site.

I really do Respect Do and MD's very much and I'm honored to be attending medical school. I just don't know why some people have to act like this?

:luck:

Is this a rolling admissions school? How long after the interview do you know if you are accepted?

I am interviewing at OSUCOM on November 14th.

It is my number one Oseopathic School.

My stats are:

MCAT: 28N

GPA: 3.77

BCPM: 3.83

To answer your question I think OSUCOM, interviews out of state students now that exceed their average stats MCAT and GPA. That not to say you won't get an interview, they may interview you in the future.

I did get a secondary from them, but not sure I'll fill it out since I'm OOS and a marginal Candidate in terms of Science GPA.

Thoughts?

Since you have done all that, its only 25 bucks and not much work. Why not would be a better question I think. At least give yourself a shot of being considered. Plus OSU is more worried about who you are, not what your science GPA is as long as you get an interview.

I am an August MCATer and OSU is my numero uno. The days are agonizingly ticking by so I called OSU this past week to follow up about their admissions timelines and policies. Here is what I was told:

1st round interviews: begin next week (This round of invites is full)
2nd round interviews: Nov 29,30 and Dec 1
3rd round interviews: December 17th and 18th

If you haven't yer received a call for an interview, this is because they do not begin inviting for the following interviews until the preceding ones have started. So, from what I understand, 2nd round invitees should be called around next week or so.

If you have yet to send in your secondary, it would be most beneficial to do so ASAP because admissions at this school is on a rolling basis. To paraphrase what I was told, once your file is complete, it is sent to the admissions committee which reviews applications and chooses candidates for interviews. The earlier a file is completed, the more it is exposed to the committee and thus the increased your chances will be for an interview.

Hope this helps!

I just got a post card in the mail from them today. My file is complete and being reviewed... FINALLY!

That interview timeline is cutting it close, since I have to confirm with KCUMB by Dec 14. The pressure is on.

I wouldn't worry too much about not getting an early interview. Last year, I interviewed on around Jan 13th. 7 of the 8 that interviewed that day are now part of the 1st year class. The one that isn't in our class already had an acceptance to another school on interview day. I believe many people had difficulty with AOCOMAS losing transcripts and other assorted errors. I wasn't complete until early December as a result.

So i definatly got a phone call today from the admissions office; they lost my secondary! A little frustrating, considering the fact that I didn't think to save it since I had to print it.

👎 That sucks!!!!!

I think that merits an automatic interview.....👍

Hi Guys! I'm intervewing on novembrer 30! Can't wait. Very nervous. OSU is my numer 1 choice! I have been granted a acceptance at another school, but I really want to move to the midwest for medical school, becaase I think it would be sooooo much better for my daughter to go to school in such a safe area.

please, Please, please send me an email private mesage if you are also going to interview on November 30!!!!

thanks Guys!!!

So I had called a few weeks ago about my situation of OSU being my top choice, and already having an acceptance at my second choice. I sent a letter explaining, and I called them. They said that as soon as my file is complete I was looking very good to have a chance before I have to confirm with my second choice. My file is complete as of last week (not my fault, a procrastinating professor did this to me), and I hear that they are calling for interviews this week for November 29, 30. I have anxiously waited for their call for two days now. Time to panic?

I got my completion letter from them 10 days ago and they called me yesterday for an interview on the 30th. Sounds like they had all there days open for interviews since they let me pick the date but maybe that's standard.

I guess you should start panicing in a few days but they take a while to get in all done maybe you'll get in the next round of interviews.

i do hate this waiting game

The next round will be after I pay a $1000 confirmation deposit to KCUMB, I believe. 🙁

Hey with your stats:
Hi Guys! I got a 2.84 + 3 retakes = 3.06 (I call it 3.1 on applications).

MCAT 22L -- April 2006
MCAT 21M -- Aug. 2006

I've been a longtime lurker, but sinse I got my 1st acceptance I wanted ot post and say that never give up hope guys!!!!!

Can you post your EC's or other things on your app? I'm happy they interviewed someone with that low of a gpa/mcat OOS b/c I was under the assumption that they usually don't b/c of the high # of apps vs low # of interviews granted to OOS. Thanks.

$1000 will be nothing if you do get accepted to OSUCOM and get in-state tuition. I use to worry about a couple hundred here, a couple here, but after ya start getting the monthly bills for $150K, you'll become a little desensitised. wait until the last minute to pay KCUMB, but pay it if you haven't heard from OSU. Personally, I don't think it should be legal for them to keep the deposit.

I won't get in state tuition from OSU since I am from Missouri, but the irony is that their out of state tuition is about 6k less than KCUMB's tuition. The only caveat is working out the financial aid situation.

This, however, is not a problem any longer as I just got the interview invite just minutes ago! I will be there on the 29th. No more panic.
