Since we're all of age, can anyone recommend some good drinks? I'd love to try some new stuff.

Scotch.

Boulevardier, which is basically a negroni with bourbon instead of gin.

I've never tried scotch. Might need to put that to the list!

Not sure, tasted super good and the buzz was awesome.

It sounds delicious. I love anything with chocolate, really. You can't go wrong!

Chocolate Martini? How does that work? I imagine it would make the drink a little thicker, though not that I mind.

Normally chocolate liquor, vodka and half/half or cream.

So a bit thinker, more of a dessert drink but yummy.

Last night, I went out and had this mudslide that tasted like ice cream with alcohol in it. It was heavenly, so I can see myself liking this Chocolate Martini.

ahahahah! thats like the cheapest stuff you can get! Thats like the stuff we used to snag in the ghetto when we were 13 😉

I love anything kahlua, peach, strawberry, fruit is my thing.

Single barrel bourbon, any of them. Jack Daniels Single Barrel is good imo, costs about $45 for a 750ml. No, this is not the same as that crap everyone drinks.

Mad Dog 20/20

Are you getting drinking advice from the patients in your ED? 🙂

I recommend an Exxon Valdez. It's still a popular drink around the coast of southcentral Alaska. An Exxon Valdez is vodka and Hazelwood (hazelnut flavoring). After they're mixed, they go on the rocks. Get it?

haha - right?

I don't drink a lot of beer, but when I do it's not Killian's Irish Red. I tried it once and it was the first beer I couldn't finish. No offense, of course 🙂

Generally agree here. Ever try Bernheim wheat whiskey?

Haven't heard of it. I typically stay away from drinks with "wheat" in their name primarily because I don't like wheat beers. I might try this one out though, I haven't found a decent quality whiskey that I didn't like.

It's worth it. One of the smoothest I've tried. Currently enjoying a dalwhinnie 15 my sister got me for Xmas.

Btw, I saw a response of yours over in the mcat forum. Not trying to be mean or anything, sorry if you took it that way. Just trying to offer up some suggestions to help you out with your physics.

Jameson on the rocks. It's my happy place.

If beer, Smithwick's or Fat Tire

Tbh I didn't even notice the reply until you mentioned it here and I went to go read it. I got distracted by the mustang vs honda argument.

🙄

Beer
Anything from Founder's, Ninkasi, Cape Ann, Russian River, and I've yet to have a bad Belgian beer. Rogue and Black Butte are decent. Sam Adams is hit or miss.

Other stuff
I really like Flor de Cana rum and Kahlua. I drink mojitos whenever I can get my hands on some mint.
I make a milkshake type of thing using 1 oz kahlua, 1 oz dark rum, 4 oz milk (preferably whole, but any will do), and 1 or 2 scoops of vanilla or chocolate ice cream. Blend and enjoy.

I also drink wine of all kinds. Chardonnay, Carbernet Sauvignon, ruby and tawny Port, Madeira, etc, etc. Personally, I think wines from New Zealand and Portugal give you the most bang for your buck.

And sake. I drank lots of it in Japan. Especially when it was 10 bucks all-you-can-drink for 2 hours.

I'm a lush.

Dude, drinking in foreign countries, I've found... is bad. When I was in Russia, I stayed with this family and they had me drink homemade Moonshine.. and wouldn't stop giving me more. I had about 8 shots in an hour. I don't remember much of that night.

In Russia? You sure it wasn't homemade vodka? They look the same 🙂

haha No, this was stronger than vodka. When they brought it out, they called it something different, so I knew it wasn't vodka. And they loved giving it to me, because of the faces I made when I took it. It went down really smooth, but had a strong, strong taste.

Before I stopped remembering things, I do remember that I was walking around singing Russian songs.

Sounds kinda like when I was at a local microbrew in Japan (Otaru Beer). It's run by a guy from, IIRC, Oklahoma, and a German guy. They make German-style brews (dunkels, weizens, dunkelwiezens, bocks, etc.). Anyway, the first Friday of every month was "beer club" day, where starting at 5 you could get all-you-can-drink for about 20 bucks until closing time. I was there with a couple friends and met a small group of Germans who were exchange students at a local university. I remember "singing" some drinking songs in "German". And urinating on the wall at the back of a hospital nearby my apartment, which inspired me to go into medicine:idea:.

Haha that is just flippin' fantastic! Oh, the things we do when drunk

I rarely drink but I had this Sangria at my best friend's rehearsal dinner and Wow, don't know what was in it but it was smooth and potent and heavenly. I kept having to stop myself from going back and refilling. I guess like 10 people asked her mother in law for the recipe but she couldn't find it 🙁

Otherwise I've enjoyed the ice cream version of the mudslide at Applebee's (also works to mix mudslide mix + wendy's chocolate frosty😳) , frozen margarita's and lemon drops.

I did this once. I got a single blender at Dave and Busters. I had leftover Kahlua Mudslide mix, and added that plus some ice and then chocolate chip and vanilla ice cream.. and it was heavenly. The only problem is that you don't realize how potent it is.. and you end up feeling reallllly good by the end of the night.

Caramel ice cream:

Never underestimate the power of a spicy Bloody Mary.
Like sangria, but homemade...if it comes premixed from a bottle forget it.
Lately enjoy cucumber gimlets.
Any riff on a martini is good by me...I made a Concord grape martini with fresh grapes & just-squeezed juice from a local farm stand this fall. Fabulous and refreshing.
Ginger and whiskey, or pretty much anything with ginger.
A good strong Spanish coffee. Yum.
Microbrews snob here...miss the fantastic selection in the NW and being able to buy beer in the grocery store on a Sunday.
Epicurious has a nice drinks file on their app--or look up www.epicurious.com
You can search by type of liquor, main ingredient, etc.
And if you're past 25, definitely time to start learning about wine!

And Whiskey/Scotch/Bourbon if you're a male.

Manhattan: 3 parts bourbon, 1 part sweet vermouth, dash Angustura Bitters, lemon twist, maraschino cherry. yum.

I drink scotch (single malt, mostly). I like Glenmorangie -- the 10 year or whatever. Also Glenfiddich 12 is nice, and somewhat similar. I also really enjoy Old Pulteney 12 because it tastes a little like the sea due to the aging process/location. Laphroaig 10 is really good. For blended, I really like J.W. Green...but Black is my go-to at crappy bars with limited selection.

I also really like bourbon...I'm a Woodford Reserve drinker straight. Or Maker's in a Manhattan. Or in an Old Fashioned.

OH yeah, and I like beer. I brew at home when I have the time. I'm an IPA fan, but also (shockingly) I love me some bourbon or whisky barrel aged beers. Check them out.

Here's mine:

The Jolly Rancher:

1 part vodka
1 part disaronno
1 part orange juice
1 part pineapple juice.

Make sure all of the ingredients except for the disaronno are cold, and serve with 1 ice cube.

coconut rum and pineapple juice, mmmmm (warning, they taste so good you keep drinking them like it is really just juice then BAM...you are looking like this :soexcited:😛

I love pina coladas! (i love just about anything with coconut) Top those with a few cherries

Ciroc vodka (the red one) with cranberry juice. Something about Ciroc makes you really mellow like you enter some "I am chillin" mode and you think you are a smooth operator.

A nice glass of dry white wine from Germany is great 🙂 I only get German wine.

The hubby likes Heffeweisen beers. Those are wheat beers, they are rather dark and filling. If you like dark beers go for a heffe.

I am a lightweight with drinking though ,some of you may find my drinks of choice not very affective. They are not extremely intoxicating so if your looking for something to knock you on your butt, go for a long island iced tea or rusty nail. ^^ We are not big drinkers so I can't offer much more than that.

As a point of order I can say with some certainty that the vast majority of hefeweizens are not dark. Some are though. Is there a particular brand he likes?

👍

Homebrew is the ultimate intersection between my two great passions, biology and drink.

Dr. Pepper + Goldschlager

Not really my personal drink of choice, but a friend made it for me one night and it wasn't half bad.

-Beer. I love craft beers. I generally go for dark beers, although the best beer I've had recently was this year's Stone Vertical Epic.

-Gin and Tonic. I generally go for Tanqueray when I'm out, but at home cheaper gin will suffice.

-Jack and Coke. Hated bourbon for the longest time, but now I am starting to quite like it.

-Wine. Generally cheapo (<$7) bottles from Trader Joe's. Don't know a ton about wine.

Looking to get into bourbon/scotch, but don't really know what's good (especially in my lower price range).

A couple of shots of Four Horsemen, Dos Equis beer.

When I want something different, mango margaritas.

Silver Patron Tequila, chilled, no salt, no lime. Down it or sip it, your choice.

Cuba Libre: Bacardi, Coke, Lime

And when it's hot, a Mojito is always good.

Good stuff.

Absinthe i hear is really friggin awesome.

Sent from my computer because I am lame.

You're not lame. On the contrary!! 🙂

These are all awesome ideas, and some of these drinks sound amazing. Hopefully I can try a good portion of them without giving myself liver problems.
