Yeah I think they're really fake too. My first year in college The Real World was being taped in my hometown (very small town) so whenever I went home they were always there. My friend lived right across the street from them and some of my guy friends got jobs as security just standing outside the house. It was completely embellished for TV drama. They told me that one time during a fight the girl got out of the van and shut the door and the producers were like "Can you do that again and slam it harder and yell louder?"... I dunno but supposedly they were always doing stuff like this to make it seem more interesting and dramatic.

I hate reality tv. It's become such a craze in the past 5 years. Seriously, some television shows are for mindless idiots.

So, since personal "still life" pictures are becoming of this forum now (They've been staples of the Pharmacy forum for ages), I figure I'd add a couple.

Lately my wife has been regaled with dozens of brochures from dozens of law schools across the country, dazzling her with big salary numbers, 99% job placement rates, 90% bar passage rates (That's really, reallllly high, as opposed to that being a terrible percentage for NAPLEX, LOL) and such... And the catalogs/pamphlets/swag is just so gorgeous I had to snap a quick picture:

And, since everyone's doing "computer working area" pics, here's mine:

Nice. That game seriously consumed two of my summers off. It is a heavily addictive game and dangerous if you ask me. lol

Any game can be. I know countless people who play CoD:MW/MW2 like it's their job and that's just a damn FPS, you know? Granted, MMORPGs/RPGs lend themselves to addictive gameplay, since they technically never end (Even after beating end-game bosses, there's still items to get, even after getting a Gladiator title in PvP, there's always more seasons to get it) but everything is good in moderation.

I definitely don't play as much as I did in 2006, since that was basically the only thing we could do while deployed that didn't involve sleeping or shooting (Yeah the latency was pretty bad, but 950ms or so is manageable depending on what you're doing) and while on garrison duty at home (24 hour shifts and such).

At this point, if I didn't make pretty good side-money playing at LAN PvP (Player vs. Player) tournaments, I wouldn't really play it very much.

I wanted to post my girly antique desk to add a nice touch of femininity to the collection of random desks posted. 🙂 This picture was taken on Xmas for a different purspoe but it will do:

Here's the mirror I bought for my room for getting ready in the morning before my roomie hung it up:

When I had a lot more time and was really into sim racing, I would practice 2-3 hours a night and then run at least two 3 hour races per week

Wow, that is intense. You are a dedicated racer lol. How are you on the real roads?

Yep, case in point!

No one cares about my pictures except Doc SS... last time I post any for you guys!

I like pictures. I like having visuals to the users on here.

I like the diplomas on the wall 🙂

Also, I remember you said your wife was planning on applying to schools back east, has she changed her mind? I saw those brochures were from Cali schools. Berkley is a sweet school 🙂

These arrived in the last week or so, her east coast stuff is all either trashed or stored somewhere. Her Columbia swag is somewhere, they sent her a little pennant thing. Kind of weird.

It's also a little hopefulness on my behalf. I really don't want to move back east. I like CA weather, even if I hate the politics.

And yes, I have loooots of pieces of paper saying how amazing and well-educated and what a hero I am. It helps me remember that the things I did under uncle sam's rule will help me in the long run.

lol... I was supposed to apply to pharmacy school for class of 2013... that game is the reason why I didn't get that done :bang:... good thing I quit that for good!

P4Sci, you sure like to work in a cramped space. Nice pic, tho 🙂

Oh that's nothing compared to what I had to work with for years in the Army, lol. =-/

I should say, my wife has most of the space, but she has a massive TBR (To Be Read) pile and since she's a blogger and all that jazz, I let her have the space. I'm fine with what I've got. When I need to do work, I have a big desk in the office.

It's messy, since at the moment, I'm converting my paper filing system of bills, receipts, etc to a digital database (hence the scanner).

I believe it-- about what you had to work with in the Army. From what I have read, you are a sweet husband- always putting your wife first. Your wife is a lucky gal.🙂

Cramped space is pretty much the usual state... Even in garrison, the offices were shared and tiiiiiny. I wish I had pictures of them, but that was of course strictly forbidden.

I am probably a little too giving at times, but it's how I was raised and a very hard habit to break, and it works for us, so whatever, right!

Wow, Passion that looks delish ! Why is it so expensive though ?

Very awesome mirror cheburashka! Where did you find that?

I don't have a picture of my workspace (academic or otherwise) but I have pictures of ... well stuff from my (unrelated to pharmacy 😱) blog. Since we migrated back to beer ... well beer is just liquid bread. Here's some bread pics.

No bread makes my face so numb I can't feel it.

I impugne you for ever comparing such a glorious drink (when it's not Bud Light or some crap like that) with the comparison to mere sustenance.

Very pretty pictures, though. What's the first one from? They all look much more professional than mine (iphone camera ftw).

No Spiriva style pics allowed here.

I tried the Delirium a couple months ago. Its definately quality. Part of my collection includes a bottle of a Belgium dark I picked up a couple years ago... Malheur Brut Noir. Saving it until I figure out something perfect to pair it with.

The first picture is from a Santa Monica restaurant called the Whist. I have pictures of the food from the Whist as well.

Kmoogs - good stuff, I love the pics 👍

Since we are doing foodie pics - here is a picture of delicious beer and hot spiced wine me and my classmate tried at this awesome German resto in SF:

I've seen the various Delirium varieties at my local package store... always looked really interesting, but I've just never been able to force myself to pay that kind of money. I enjoy beer (and let me tell you, getting to that point wasn't exactly easy), but at the end of the day, I'm drinking it for the alcohol... so I do have to think about quantity. 😀

Woah you can't leave this thread alone for long can you???

Pictures from your home or GTFO! 😱

So you HAVE been reading the lounge??? 😛

I never post in there anymore... I haven't been harassed yet, but they sort of just ignore everyone else to argue (pointlessly) amongst themselves, and the lack of meaningful conversation is pretty boring actually.

So anyway...

I appreciate your pictures p4sci! The picture threads are my favorite... It's always a lot better to SEE what other people are talking about than just trying to describe it. I think it's really cool that your wife has the ability to go to the most selective law schools. I remember someone talking about Yale a few months ago too, but that is definitely on the east coast and someplace you probably would not want to live. VERY cold in the winter and extremely hot and humid in the summer (I've only been in August and it was hotter and more humid than Miami). I'm guessing that they're sending her all those packages because of her LSAT scores? Don't they have some kind of access to those?

On another note... I don't really know a lot about politics, but why are Cali politics worse than the east coast? I thought the far east and west coasts were both rather liberal, with the mid west and deep south being more conservative (just in general).

Chebs- I love your furniture it looks Victorian! When I was younger my whole room was Victorian antique furniture... my mom loves that stuff. I always complained because all my friends had new matching sets from Ikea or Rooms to Go or whatever, but now that I'm older I appreciate it.

I really like beer too which is bad because it will create a beer gut if you drink it often. I like the good beer too... I'm embarrassed to be caught ordering something like bud light. I guess I appreciate it the same way I do good food...not as a means to get schwasted. If I am out eating wings watching football and I'm complete broke I might order whatever domestic thing is on special because wings taste so much better with a beer... but that's about it.

There is a little European specialty store in my hometown called Kalinka and my dad and I always go there because they have the best beer. They have a bunch from the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Germany, etc. It's really hearty and amazing.

I do have to say though... I love bread. I could LIVE off of bread cheese wine and coffee. I love carbs... I really only eat meat because I have to. I tried being a vegetarian in high school but I looked like crap because I lost too much weight doing that. 🙁

Caffeine was my only vice and now that I have given that up, it has been replaced by constantly reading through SDN threads. I think I might have to hide my Blackberry from myself... :/ not good...

Caffeine, SDN, and crackberry are my biggest vices right now.

I fear that caffeine will never go away... I just love coffee too much. My entire family drinks it like water... the pot is ALWAYS on it never stops. I should take a picture of the ten different coffee brands sitting around. One is called Ernest Hemingway's Hair of the Dog (high caffeine). That stuff is pure awesomeness.

SDN scares me sometimes because I'm not even a long-time member and I'm already checking it multiple times a day. I do a lot of my work online (writing papers, e-textbooks, etc) so there is always an SDN tab open. I could go without facebook... I'm unimpressed, but I do check that if I get a notice on my phone that someone tagged me in a picture or something like that.

That brings me to the crackberry... this has only served to feed my SDN addiction. I could just sit on SDN for hours in the car (when someone else is driving of course). Also... when insomnia kicks in and I am laying in bed... the phone is so convenient to use without having to haul over the laptop and sit up.

So you HAVE been reading the lounge??? 😛
Maybe.

Totally agree...

Yale's in Stamford, CT (Where Jerry Springer is filmed now, weeee) and while it's not as cold as Cambridge, MA or New York in the winter, it's still not as nice and sunny as CA is!

I'm guessing that they're sending her all those packages because of her LSAT scores? Don't they have some kind of access to those?
Well, whatever goes into the LSDAS system (Their version of PharmCAS), the law schools can see, and plan accordingly. She had a really high LSAT, since she's half-Vulcan (Eschewing emotion in favor of rationality in almost all cases, except some, hence only being a mudblood Vulcan) and loves logic puzzles and such (Which is all the LSAT is - Reading and logic). Law schools do admissions based almost 100% off numbers - Interviews are rare for law, and every attribute a candidate for admission has is numbered. There is actually a law school acceptance predictor compiled from years of admissions data because their admissions are so rote and quantifiable, LOL, and it's dead accurate almost every year. Kinda scary really...

On another note... I don't really know a lot about politics, but why are Cali politics worse than the east coast?
Well, I'm not much of a polyticks person myself, but what I hate the most is the Proposition system. It allows voters, most of whom are uninformed, undereducated and just dumb to vote on things costing hundreds of millions of dollars (Such as the "bullet train" from Sacramento to Los Angeles, woweeee that sounds exciting doesn't it Chester!?) or voting to ban gay marriage (Which gives politicians the ol' "Hey, look, the people voted for it, yeah!") which you would think wouldn't happen in CA of all places, right? That, and the ridiculous gas excise taxes we all pay which are dramatically higher than anywhere else save NYC... when my wife was back in NE for the holiday, gasoline (87 octane) was $2.49/gal... here it's $3.05/gal for 87 and creeping upward (I can't use anything but 91 in either of my cars, great idea I know, but I lived in TX at the time - Cheap gas). There are other things more personal to me, like how CHiPs pull me over because I don't have a front license plate drilled into my Mustang (I bought it in TX, where they don't req. a FLP, and thus the car from the factory without mounting holes) despite people flying by me at 85-90 MPH, stuff like that. Makes no sense.

I really like beer too which is bad because it will create a beer gut if you drink it often. I like the good beer too... I'm embarrassed to be caught ordering something like bud light. Don't worry about a beer gut if you exercise and drink moderately... A couple of beers a week or when you're out with friends won't develop you a beer gut!

I still maintain that Belgians make the best beer!

Heh, speaking of that... before I joined the Army, I decided to give a low-carb diet a try and I went down to 157 pounds (I'm 6'1" so that's way under my ideal BMI) and would've stayed on it had I not had to eat MREs (Carbo-freaking-licious) and such in the service. Back to a more comfortable 179-185 now... which I think is what my BMI says I should be.
