On another note... I don't really know a lot about politics, but why are Cali politics worse than the east coast? I thought the far east and west coasts were both rather liberal, with the mid west and deep south being more conservative (just in general).

Two words. Proposition system :scared:

Heh, speaking of that... before I joined the Army, I decided to give a low-carb diet a try and I went down to 157 pounds (I'm 6'1" so that's way under my ideal BMI) and would've stayed on it had I not had to eat MREs (Carbo-freaking-licious) and such in the service. Back to a more comfortable 179-185 now... which I think is what my BMI says I should be.

Low-carb diets are like, the anti-Asian.... I could never do a low-carb diet. Too much rice and noodles in the food.

LOL, yea I loved noodles/rice... Too much so. And when I started the diet I was pretty out of shape.. 210-215lbs. with limited muscle, very soft overall.

It's a lot of eggs, meat and meat and meat, but I got really good at making exciting dishes even using basic ingredients. Overall, though, I'm a lot happier eating a normal low-fat/low-cal kind of "diet" (Using the word in its traditional sense).

Carbs=comfort food. I could live on bread and pasta. For me, the key is whole grains...I can still eat a good deal of carbs and not balloon up too much 🙂

Maybe.

Totally agree...

Yale's in Stamford, CT (Where Jerry Springer is filmed now, weeee) and while it's not as cold as Cambridge, MA or New York in the winter, it's still not as nice and sunny as CA is!

Well, whatever goes into the LSDAS system (Their version of PharmCAS), the law schools can see, and plan accordingly. She had a really high LSAT, since she's half-Vulcan (Eschewing emotion in favor of rationality in almost all cases, except some, hence only being a mudblood Vulcan) and loves logic puzzles and such (Which is all the LSAT is - Reading and logic). Law schools do admissions based almost 100% off numbers - Interviews are rare for law, and every attribute a candidate for admission has is numbered. There is actually a law school acceptance predictor compiled from years of admissions data because their admissions are so rote and quantifiable, LOL, and it's dead accurate almost every year. Kinda scary really...

Well, I'm not much of a polyticks person myself, but what I hate the most is the Proposition system. It allows voters, most of whom are uninformed, undereducated and just dumb to vote on things costing hundreds of millions of dollars (Such as the "bullet train" from Sacramento to Los Angeles, woweeee that sounds exciting doesn't it Chester!?) or voting to ban gay marriage (Which gives politicians the ol' "Hey, look, the people voted for it, yeah!") which you would think wouldn't happen in CA of all places, right? That, and the ridiculous gas excise taxes we all pay which are dramatically higher than anywhere else save NYC... when my wife was back in NE for the holiday, gasoline (87 octane) was $2.49/gal... here it's $3.05/gal for 87 and creeping upward (I can't use anything but 91 in either of my cars, great idea I know, but I lived in TX at the time - Cheap gas). There are other things more personal to me, like how CHiPs pull me over because I don't have a front license plate drilled into my Mustang (I bought it in TX, where they don't req. a FLP, and thus the car from the factory without mounting holes) despite people flying by me at 85-90 MPH, stuff like that. Makes no sense.

Don't worry about a beer gut if you exercise and drink moderately... A couple of beers a week or when you're out with friends won't develop you a beer gut!

I still maintain that Belgians make the best beer!

Yeah I do think it would be hard going from Florida or Cali to the Northeast. I've never had the desire to really vacation up there (I've had to go for other obligations)... but I wouldn't mind living anywhere in the immediate south or out west somewhere. I would suck it up and go if it was for school, or a bad *** job, or my husband/wife (as long as I could still take care of myself in that location because I wouldn't want to live off my boyfriend only). To me it's more about what you make of it I guess.

In a way that whole law school admissions procedure seems really cool to me. I've always liked numbers and quantifiable data like that. I know probably NO ONE would agree with me when it comes to pharmacy school admissions because interviews can discern a lot about people, particularly in the science field (like empathy, communication skills, etc)... but I would think law schools would be looking for these traits too, and they've figured out a way to do it. I'm probably biased because I've always done really well on standardized tests and I understand applicants who get nervous about interviews and such. I think the best way to do well is just have good stats to get your foot in the door and then make sure you do well on the interview no matter what. Don't get sick, don't eat questionable food the night before, don't stay up late, don't have a bad day, don't even try to stay far away and drive there in the morning, etc.

That proposition system does seem strange. I think Florida has one too? Because I remember during elections everyone was making a huge deal over Prop 2 - the marriage protection amendment. My car only takes 91-93 octane also which is annoying but it's only a V6 so the mileage isn't too bad. The Florida Keys just got stuck with a 5 cent tax increase on Jan 1st so that is also crappy. 🙁 I would hate to screw holes in my front bumper. My old car came with them so I put a plate there from my college, but the car I have now doesn't have that luckily.

Your BMI sounds right because my boyfriend is barely 6'2 (probably closer to 6'1 barefoot) and he hovers between 175-180 when he eats right. When we met he was living alone and eating only once a day really crappy stuff like those $1 Totinos pizzas and he only weighed about 155 as well.

I just went on the MRE website and there is a link to a video of a retiring Army Col. who brough back a cased poundcake from Vietnam, and saved it to eat on his retirement day! It was still edible and normal looking too... I thought that was pretty funny.

I went to a little hole in the wall coffee shop the other day and say this on a clock and I really wanted to buy it...

I think it's cute.

It is a lot of what you make of it, absolutely. I even found fairly enjoyable things to do when I lived in SIerra Vista, AZ during a part of my Army training. That is one reason why I am okay with moving back east as a part of my wife's schooling, (That and her starting salary for a T14 will easily surpass mine, so fiscally it also makes good sense).

They don't really care much about personality past what they get in the personal statement from what it seems like. They'll never even meet her before she steps foot as an L1 in the classroom. I like it too... but I've got good numbers and good "softs". Some folks need the interview to show, "HEY! Don't just look at my numbers, look at me, I am sociable/personable and would make a great Pharmacist" and such. But when you've got 8000+ apps a year like law schools do, I can understand it.

Yea, Prop 2 there is our Prop 8 here. I'm still confused as to how allowing same-sex marriage "harms" marriage for anyone else, but hey what do I know.

The way I see it, if I fit into my clothes and don't look like a slob, I'm a at a good weight. I've always been big into cooking, I love baking so I've never really indulged in the true bachelor life of Totino's pizzas and such. Did I miss out?

I just went on the MRE website and there is a link to a video of a retiring Army Col. who brough back a cased poundcake from Vietnam, and saved it to eat on his retirement day! It was still edible and normal looking too... I thought that was pretty funny.

MREs are freaking disgusting, but they do provide an excellent source of energy and they're easy to lug around in a cargo pocket for when you're on a long mission and you don't have time to get hot chow. That said, if I can NEVER eat another one, I will be happy.

Absolutely 110% don't. Already had a vasectomy as a matter of fact. My 25th birthday gift to myself (Since they don't really do the operation before 25 years of age).

That's very interesting. If you don't mind me asking, how did you come to this decision? I don't know many people that do not want children. Especially people as young as yourself.

I'm almost 30. How exactly is that "as young" as anything?

I am a selfish person by nature, as is my wife. If we want to go to Fiji, we want to go to Fiji, without dealing with a sitter, and all that bullcrap. Dogs can be kenneled and they'll never know the difference, but a child put in daycare, well the effects on the child are hard to know. I don't want to be responsible for someone growing up all jacked up because I put my career first, and I know my wife will have absolutely no time with the partner track at a law firm to raise a child either. A sad statistic is that only 2% of executive level women have children.. why do you think that is?

IN essence, just don't want to deal with it. No late night phone calls, no teenage pregnancies, no drug experimentation, no buying the latest toys, no buying a Wii Fit just cos their friends have one... none of it. Children are enormous headaches.

I don't want kids either! LOL

Yeah... the protection of marriage thing not only takes rights away from gay and lesbian couples but it can also affect straight life-partners who use each others benefits without being married. My mom was mad when it passed because she's been with my 'step dad' for 20 years but does not want to get married.

I don't think any guy misses out when they don't have to eat Totino's... they're not really good. I ate them a few times and they were okay because I got the supreme kind, and it had a lot of toppings and it was crispy, but after a few times it starts to taste fake and gross and nasty.

+ infinity.... so true.

P4Sci, if smart people like us don't have children, what will the world be left with? You should at least anonymously donate your sperm so you can put some intelligence back into the gene pool.

LOL, perhaps that's an idea, but to be honest, by the time our lack of reproduction matters, I'll just be dust in the ground and will hardly care.
😎

LOL I think we had this exact discussion a few months ago. P4Sci talking about not wanting kids... and then me lamenting on which intelligent people will donate themselves to have children and repopulate the gene pool with whatever genes happen to lend themselves to the 'intelligent' or 'studious' phenotype.

If you look at it rationally it does make sense. I put 'intelligent' in quotations because how one defines intelligence is often debatable, but honestly... children who seem to naturally do well in school, or when things come easier or faster for them, they are usually the ones who remain in school and go off to college and/or higher level careers. These are the same people who put off having children, have less children, or never have them at all, because their lifestyle makes it more difficult.

You can always make an exception and say that people succeed due to a number of other factors like hard work, determination, luck, their network, who they know, etc... but there has to be something to it. I'm not saying that people who don't go to college and decide to have kids aren't intelligent, but if you look at things generally speaking I think most people who do well in school decide to further their education and put off family life a little longer or indefinitely.

edit>>> I don't really want children either... I'm just saying how this trend seems to be kind of true.

A big production about how my view of children is interesting and calling me too young to make the decision (implication and inferrence) and no response Doc?

I said that because I was under the assumption you were much younger. You could disregard my previous comment since I obviously did not know your age. You are clearly old enough to know what you want.

Ahh... well I guess I should be flattered, thinking I did 4 1/2 years in the Army, and got two Bachelor's degrees, all before I was what, 22? 🙂

You said it! I agree- genetics certainly has something to do with intelligence. In the world of 'politically correct', these subjects stir a bit of controversy in some circles. Nobody wants to come out and say that uneducated, ignorant people are having more children than intelligent, self-sufficient people. Darwin might be rolling in his grave right now because I honestly do not believe that 'survival of the fittest' applies anymore- especially in a culture of entitlement and government handouts. There is a term for the lack of motivation to succeed that exists in some people- learned helplessness.

There are plenty of smart people who still, for some reason, elect to bear the worst STD known to man... so not too worried.

Everyone I work in the pharmacy has at least 2 kids.

but see, this is what we get constantly, "OMG YOURE NOT HAVING KIDS HOW DARE YOU INSULT YOUR HUMANITY LIKE THIS!!!!!"

At least once a day.

I bet that gets old...

as if having children is the meaning of life...

Or at least the ONLY purpose for marriage.

Whatever happened to companionship and partnership? Nope, sorry, only for procreation.

It's thinking like this that keeps homosexuals from being able to marry. That and idiotic people using religion to justify their closed-mindedness.

If only I could be Emperor P4S for one day...

Tell me about it. My gf and I would love to get married but we can't. It really sucks because of stupid things like paying extra money every month that's doubly taxed just to carry her on my health insurance. Not to mention all the additional legal documents for stuff like visitation and being a health proxy.

I think the gay marriage issue is another ploy to insert more religion into government...where it does not belong. But, who am I? Just another tax-payer in the minority, right?

EDIT: but, above all the legal stuff, it would be nice to have our 'partnership' at least recognized instead of having to explain it to everyone I meet.

I see that issue everywhere. Sometimes my friends and I (back in college) couldn't help but laugh about how dumb the arguments sounded.

I've been thinking about going to the APhA-ASP annual meeting in DC, but it's considerably expensive even after some reimbursement from the school. I think I have a choice between that and getting trained (to be an intern) by two P3 students and a preceptor pharmacist, starting on my spring break.

What are you foo's talking about?! Allowing teh gays to marry will obviously cause our society to crumble. All our children will get raped by pedophiles and will in turn CATCH teh gay, until the entire country become gay and effectively removes themselves from the gene pool, at which point there will be no more 'real Americans' because they'll sto reproducing and the nation will get overrun with illegal aliens from Mexico and will eventually get invaded by China anyway.

I've had this question on my mind a lot recently, and thought you guys may have an answer. Are there any pharm schools that accept applicants without interviews- so basically they accept you straight off your GPA, PCAT, PS & LOR?

(Now I'm not talking about 0-6s here) 🙂

Don't forget it will increase the abortion rate!

-Daily Show reporter- "But... they're gay?"

-Man- "But they will develop a...aaa.. you.. you know... what's that word the gays always use?"

LOL I was watching too much Daily Show tonight... it's a rarity since I hardly ever watch television!

I am BORED.

Did anybody know that McDonalds makes caramel and mocha frappecinos now? I am definitely going there instead of Starbucks. I mean I guess you probably wouldn't notice unless you actually eat at McDonalds... but I went there for a caramel sundae and left with a frappecino instead... now I am still awake.

I wonder if they'd stack up to $bux's Frapps in a blind taste test... I know McD's coffee "mochas" taste like complete butt compared to $bux's.

The mocha lattes do taste pretty nasty... I always have to ask for extra sugar, but the caramel frappecino was surprisingly really good. It was a little sweeter than starbucks so I'm not sure if everyone would like it better though.

I quit consuming caffeine by giving up soda and coffee 🙁 Oh how I miss it, too- but, I suppose I will get through it. Two weeks and counting...

Starbucks has ****ty coffee, man. Seriously- you need to try some REAL coffee at a place where they roast it right in front of you. Before I quit coffee, I went to this place in Tempe called Cartel. It's all trendy and industrial looking and they roast the beans right there in a big roaster that takes up the corner of the room. The people are kind of the punk, rebel types with piercings, tats, and wild hair. It's pretty cool because everyone is very chill- although they play some weird industrial music. But, man, that coffee is soooooooooo good. They even have ice toddy and REAL caramel macchiatos (in the little cup).

I dunno... McD or Starbucks, it tastes pretty similar to me. And thus I go by the logic, why pay $4 for meh-tasting coffee when you can only pay $1?

Of course, I don't really drink much coffee.

No, real coffee is brewed by a Turkish man in his little hut. That crap must've had 400mg of caffeine in it.

I like $bux's regular brew alright...
