Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to see who all is applying to the programs in Texas for summer/fall 2013. Also, has anyone considered applying to UTPA? I am curious about the potential of the program. 🙂

Currently, only UTEP and UTPA require the GRE in Texas.

I grew up in Texas and my family is still there. So even though I'm out of state I'm planning on applying to Texas schools. I had a low undergraduate GPA from 15+ years ago, but it was from Rice in Engineering. I figured that Texas schools would know Rice's reputation and be a little bit more understanding. I did well on the GRE, so that's even more reason to apply to UTEP/UTPA.

I've been struggling to find places that have space to let me do OT observation hours, and I'm thinking that I'm going to quit my job in order to do so. They usually say they can't accommodate me for a couple months.I have over 6 months salary saved up, so I figure I can use that to live off of until I get into school and have student loans.

Still, I'm probably not going to have enough time to do observations and get recommendations in time to get TWU's application in. Might be able to make UTHSC-SA.

I'm sure if you explain that you are trying to get into OT school, clinics and OT's will be more than happy to let you do some volunteer hours. They usually like it when someone is interested in their field. I'm sure you'll be able to squeeze in some hours between now and November 1 🙂 .

UTEP and UTPA have later deadlines so that's even better. I still need to take the GRE so I can apply to those schools. So far, I have my applications ready to be sent to TWU, Texas Tech and UTHSC. I would really like to stay in Texas and not have to pay out of state tuition!

I've done a TON of calling around for places to shadow, and explained that it is because I need to get into OT school. Probably at least 20 places. At most I leave a message and they don't return my phone calls. Some don't allow it for legal reasons. Some limit the number of hours you can shadow. Some say to call back in a couple months, then when I call back they say wait another couple months. The pediatric places weren't busy during the summer, and then at the start of the school year they are too hectic. Or the office is going through a reorganization. And then other places want a background check and they say that if you only want to volunteer for 60 hours they won't put you in for the background check.

Hey,

I am applying to Texas Woman's University. Their application is due October 15th. Hopefully everything works out because I really would like to attend any campus they have. Has anyone else applied there or know someone in the OT program there?

I have applied to Texas Tech, TWU and UTMB. Just got an interview email from Texas Tech. Any help with interview questions?

A month later and I still haven't been able to get in any more OT observation hours, even though I've quit my job to do so. I've missed the TWU and am going to miss the UTHSC-SA deadlines. Not sure whether I will try Texas Tech. I will be applying for UTPA and UTEP.

@ CurlyHairedGirl,

Best of luck in finding those hours you need! 🙂 I also will be applying to UTPA. El Paso is too far for me though. So far I have applied to TWU and UTHSC. Still working on sending my app to Texas tech.

Just got an interview email from UTMB for the 30th of NOV.🙂
