Hi, I am sure I'm not the only one wondering, but can anyone tell me what the highest paying states are for Occupational Therapists? I'm sure there are differences in salaries depending on what kind of OT you concentrate on, but for someone who is just starting out as an OT student in a master's program, I am still undecided as far as concentration, so I just wanted an overall idea. I'm from NY and while that's great, I'm open to the possibility of settling else where and it would really help to have more insight to the pay since it's such a big decision for the future. I know they have plenty of websites to show the "annual avearage" but is that the same thing as a starting salary? I am curious on the starting salaries. I will start an OT program this summer, but after I'm done, I would need to figure things out as far as licensing and the best place to settle as far as my career. So any info on salaries would be appreciated!

I would look on the Bureau of Labor Statistics website. They provide all sorts of salary statistics. I know NJ is one of the higher paid states.

Just to be aware of: you need to factor in cost of living when considering the highest salary states. For example, in the link above, it states that in NJ the salary rate is only a cent higher than the rate in Texas. However, the cost of living in NJ is SIGNIFICANTLY more than the cost of living in Texas. So if you go by these posted salaries, you really would be making a lot more in Texas since the cost of living is so much more affordable.

Yeah I want to factor in everything, so that helps. Thank you for that heads up!

It is 15k here where I live. Hospital work vs. SNF. Obv only been told by 3 OTs about their compensation.

I just asked the people where I will probably be working at what OTs get paid. That is what I will most likely be making.

Most are likely happy to tell you. Better than any avg stats given by AOTA.
