dentaltown is mostly by/for practicing dentists... I've found that the pre-dental part of the board isn't very active and that posting questions in the normal forums usually brings comments such as "just get into school first youngun" and "why dont you come back when you know what you're talking about" 😀 but it is definitly interesting just to go around reading the threads by the other members, very informative and you get a little glimpse of what you have to look forward to (or not) someday.

Do you guys ever wonder if admission officers will come in here and spy on us, and perhaps even post comments to sway a certain school?

The more I depend on SDN, the more I am paranoid that the postings here can be warped. I do browse through history of certain people who post, and that has been useful.

last year there was some talk on the board that adcoms came on here every so often to see what people were saying about their school. I'm not sure about posting propaganda about their school though.

The scourge of many forums is advertisements as fake posts. Companies actually hire people to join forums and secretly endorse thier products.

Or you just have sociopaths with multiple accounts who try to start flame wars.

There are a few on SDN 😱 not necessarily in the dental forums.

At my NOVA interview, the dean of admissions and his assistant told me that they check out the forums to see what is being said about their school.

At my UC** interview....the dean said that he wanted the interviewees to give them feedback on the eval form, so they wouldnt have to go on dental forums to read how they were doing...no joke and he was being serious

Im not saying the school but if you're smart enough you can find out which school Im talking about. 🙂 Im not posting cuz they might be reading this hahahhaha

I'm sure they do. Selling their school and evaluating students is their job. What else do they have to do. Especially after they fill their class. I'm really surprised that we don't see more Adcom and academic advisors here.

Another thing about dental towne is they attack each other like wolverines. Read some of the post in certain areas, there are some real fanatics.
