So I have already been accepted at a school that I really loved and as long as they stay true to what they are saying, I would have no regrets going to.

That being said, I just got my 11/7 MCAT retakes back and did a lot better. Better enough that I would essentially be fine at probably any DO school. (Not trying to brag, just speaking statistically)

I have already interviewed at my in state allo and with how many ties I have there, my new MCAT (which they will accept that date so no big deal), how well my interview went, and a very strong LOR from an MD on their committee I would be surprised if they didn't accept me (just gut feeling).

So I have a solid guaranteed spot at a DO school that is very much so in line with my personal and professional goals, a good shot at my in state.... Now that these other schools have gotten my MCAT, how do I go about deciding if I want to interview there or not?

I had already booked an interview at another DO school next month that I wouldn't be able to get a refund on for the flight, so I will be going there... But I am having a hard time deciding on another school that called me today.

Before my acceptance, k definitely would have interviewed at any school. But now I have a list kind of formulated in my head of schools that are well known, well established, and well respected... should I just stick with those schools?

I know this is hardly a "problem" but its tough.

1.) Manage and allocate your resources. See if it's a school worth pursuing.

- After I interviewed at DMU, Western U, and KCUMB I turned down ACOM and WVSOM. It's just how things work out. I was accepted before interviewing at AZCOM so I was a bit more lax.

2.) Don't assume anything. I've seen people with higher stats than ours get rejected. You're in limbo until you get that physical acceptance letter in hand!

3.) If you decide to attend an interview, walk into it as if you don't have an acceptance and this is your last chance at ever getting one. Put effort into it otherwise you're wasting their time. You learn a lot about yourself while interviewing.

Edit: Use #3 to your advantage. I had 1 interview per week from first week of November to the first week of January and then 1 in late April. After every interview I would write down notes on how to improve my interviewing skills.

I know its not guaranteed, but just from insider knowledge, directly from multiple borse's mouth, I have a very high chance. I'm not saying it will happen for sure because it is a bit late especially for MD but that school primarily makes decisions starting in December besides EDP and stellar apps so its a bit different than some schools.

I have a list in mind, and I think I will turn down anyone besides them. Just trying to write everything out and bounce ideas off of people

I know this thread could come off as pretentious or high and mighty, arrogant, etc... And that is not my intent. this entire process has humbled me massively, and I never expected to do as well as I ended up doing so now its like I am in a whole new ballgame.

I don't get the point of this thread. You defending that you don't want to come off as high and mighty constantly is making you come off as high and mighty. I don't think you're trying to be an ass or anything, I think you're just excited, and you should be, congrats on the higher MCAT. What do you mean what should you do if you get interview offers from other schools? If they are potential schools you like, go to them and check the school out, if not, then don't go. This should have been the mindset you had the moment you were accepted into a school you're interested in, not when you achieved a better score. Only attend interviews at more established DO schools or MD schools from here on out and turn down other interview offers. If you get accepted into the MD school and you're interested in specializing, go there. Good luck with whatever you do.

I totally agree. I probably didn't need to make a formal thread at all, but I did just need to talk it out loud I think.

Someone else on here that I was speaking to explained it in a way that I couldn't.

We sit for months in panic mode hoping we will get in ANYWHERE then suddenly we get chances at schools and its almost like we try to hoard them because of how anxious we were to get them in the first place.

Sorry you thought I came off as high and mighty, the internet isn't the easiest place to express emotion/intent.

It is, in theory, a simple decision, but not so easy to actualize, at least in my case, due to the reasons stated before. But I just needed to say this all "out loud" aka more than just in my head to really make sense of everything.

I personally hate people using connections and other people to get what they want. I know that is our society now but I'm just offering my unrelated thoughts.
I guess that's how life is.

If you take any more DO interviews, I'd schedule them as late as possible. You've presumably already paid a large deposit to one DO school, yes? Our state school routinely makes people wait until Feb or March for decisions, regardless of interview date. It would suck to pay two deposits to two different DO schools, only to end up staying in state. Unless you've just got the money to spare. If that's the case, I'd go to every interview offered. It's a big decision, and I'd want all the information available if I had the funds.

yeah definitely don't have unlimited funds. we all apply to schools that would be less than ideal, but not being a doctor is less ideal than being a doctor so typically we would all take anywhere over nowhere. but being accepted and now having a greater chance (statistically) at other schools means I can be a bit pickier.

As a one-time MCAT taker with a score in the 30s + solid GPAs + great EC's...and having spoken to other posters with scores in the 30s.....I can tell you, nothing is making sense this application cycle. Good luck to you and I wish you all the best, but don't be so confident your new score is going to get you auto ii's...especially this late in the cycle.

I don't think Baxt meant to come off as arrogant or anything like that. But I do agree with your line of thinking. Having gained an acceptance from a school that I really enjoyed, I've been starting to go through my list and removing schools that I am no longer interested in. One of the main things I look a lot at is the cost of attendance. Having finally been accepted, the idea of being in ridiculous amounts of debt is starting to hit me.

😡😡😡 A decision within the next month would be a great xmas gift... I have a $1000 deposit due January 16th at a school that I'd definitely pass on if the big red showed me some love.
