What resources do any of you residents use besides your basic text books? I have them all, but I'm looking for any books or online resources that discuss actual case based learning. I learn a lot from my attendings hands on, but if there is anything out there to supplement this I'd like to know about it. I find it is always hard to find practical information in most fields of medicine and closing the gap between what you read in your text book and actually feeling comfortable pushing that drug or changing the vent setting is hard for me to accomplish without seeing it done or having an attending tell me to do it.

I feel what you just stated is why residency is as long as it is...it takes time and experience to transition what you learn in the textbooks to the OR. There are many incredibly book smart people who once they enter the clinical environment struggle because that transition is hard for them. Clinical medicine does not equate to textbook medicine...so I do not feel there is any written source that will help with the transition.

...which is why there are TONS of case-based anesthesiology texts out there.

"Case Files," "Clinical Cases in Anesthesia," etc, the 2 Brock-Utne books, are all excellent case-by-case sources. The oral-boards prep books might be helpful too in your situation. Of course you may not want to blow $300+ on these, but that's your own steez.

Thanks for the replies so far. I am glad we have the opportunity for a lot of repetition during residency as I've found in just about 1 month of being on my own certain things make a lot more sense and I feel more comfortable. I will look into some of the case based books available. Anybody had good experience with a particular book?
