Well my father (an MD) and I were talking the other day about progress in my osteopathic applications and he asked me a heartbreaking question:

" So, did you apply to medical schools too?"

I gave an angry and overreacted response " I AM APPLYING TO MEDICAL SCHOOLS!"

Oh well, it kinda hurt to hear that but then again, he's an MD licensed and practicing in the U.S. but moved here from a foreign country just 20 years ago and didn't know much about D.O.s.

His response was, " well I meant M.D. not medical"... 😱

 Don't worry about that too much. I believe many times people who don't know much will refer to it as just DO school and not as medical school. It's a common mistake and just one little annoyance I guess you may have to put up with.

Once you're in though everyone in the school knows you as a medical student and refers to it either as medical school or osteopathic medical school. 👍

Show your dad the Residency Match list from the school you are applying to. You might surprise him.

Tell him you are going to a real U.S. medical school, not some crappy foreign "MD" program.... JUST KIDDING!!! Sometimes we over react about things, so don't be too hard on yourself or him for misspeaking. This won't be the last time you will hear this. Just smile and enjoy the process (as best you can) of becoming a healer.
