I was just wondering, I see allot of people talking about the schools they are applying to and no one seems to be mentionioning OUCOM? Is there a reason for that? I live in Ohio so even though I am a little ways away from the whole applying fiasco still it is my number one choice right now, since it's close to home and my family. (I have a sick father and I would like to stay at least within driving distance from him). But if there is a downside to this school I would love the feedback. Since MSU, LECOM AND PCOM are my choices all ranked equally (as far as my preference) after OUCOM.

Also someone mentioned something about a 5 year contract ot OUCOM in another thread along time ago. What's that all about and does it apply to in state residents. I vaguely remember the rep that came to our school mentioning something about it, but I don't remember what it was all about. If it doesn't apply to me I may have just dismissed it as a fact that I need not committ to my crowded brain right now.

Not many people on here go to OUCOM that is why you don't hear about it that often. There are a few of us on here though. OUCOM is a great school with really nice facilities, good instructors, and excellent affiliated hospitals. As a second year student I can say that I have no major complaints. There is a 5 year commitment to practice in Ohio if you are an out-of-state student. This does not apply to us in-staters. Feel free to ask me any specific questions that you have about OUCOM I would be happy to answer them.

OUCOME is a very good school with good match lists. Like said before the 5 year contract only applies to out of staters. Best of Luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm glad it doesn't apply to in state students though. It means it can stay at the top of my list, since I don't want to limit myself to one state for practicing right away.

I would have gone to OUCOM over the school I am currently at except for the following.

1. I hate Athens, I lived in Cincy and Columbus. I dated a girl in Athens and that was enough for me.
2. I don't like how you may or may not get good rotation sites. Obviously, my first choice would have been Columbus. Lots of people there make it seem like you get placed where you want...however, I have talked to people that got screwed.
3. I didn't really want to be on a college campus again, although, that deeefinately has its advantages.

So yeah, Im paying an extra 20k or so a year. Worth it? Not sure, but that's the decision I made.

FYI, the 5 year contract is only to be signed by out of staters as mentioned.

I'm with Buckeye. After doing undergrad at Ohio State, I did not want to be living in Athens, as much as I liked the school. I ended up choosing NSU-COM over several other schools (including OU-COM and Wright State) because I wanted to be in a major city (Fort Lauderdale) and doing rotations at large tertiary care centers.

Like Buckeye, I'm also paying an extra $20K per year, plus the cost of living in South Florida is outrageous compared to Athens. Not sure if it was worth it either...but I sure love living down here and the enjoying the amazing weather. 🙂
