Hi,

I applied for the OUCOM Summer Scholars program and was just wondering who else did. I think Tish Lyte (the lady in charge of stuff) said letters of acceptance would be sent in early April, so we should all be hearing any time soon 🙂. Anyway, I was just curious to see who else applied.

SURF..no clue about that, sorry.

Another question about Summer Scholars though...Tish sent an email to me saying that my file was complete. However, I looked at the number of other people she sent the email to (the cc list), and it definitely numbered less than 20. So, I'm curious..did Summer Scholars have a low number of applicants this round or what? Or maybe I'm just reading too much into that...

Hey! I'm graduating from OUCOM this June. Let me know what questions you have. I was a Summer "Surfer" and I was friends with many Summer Scholars. I think both programs are great! Best of luck to you all.

I received a similar email. I think it's just for those who finished their files at that specific point in time. I'm sure more people applied to the program. I heard that either last year or the year before last, about 65 people applied to the program. It's pretty competitive.

Hopefully, I'll get to see you at the Summer Scholars program this summer (that's if I make it in!)

So how was your experience as a surfer I just recieved my letter of acceptance and I am really excited for this summer. Did you interview that summer and if you did how was it and how do you like the school. Thanks

ya I applied to the SURF program and just received my letter of acceptance this week. Today I talked to Sarah the secretary at OUCOM and she told me that there are still two more students receiving there letters soon. So good luck to you and hope you get in.

When we were there in 2002 (gosh! That seems like forever ago!), we stayed in Bromley Hall (Both SURF and Summer Scholars). It was pretty bare and basic, but you could bring stuff from home (TV, etc.) There was a small fridge in each room. There were two beds per room and 4 people shared a connected BR. Although, I had mine all to myself because I was the only guy in the SURF program (my roommate went to Ecuador w/ Dr. Grijalva). So that was nice. We ate most of our meals in the Bromley dining hall. I think we got 2 or 3 grand (cash) that summer, so it felt like a lot considering I had no expenses. I went uptown usually at night with my peers and had a beer or two. I met my wife there actually! We would go out all the time to the bars/clubs. It was fun. In a sick way, I kinda miss Athens. It's a small town but it all revolves around the college, which is cool. What else you wanna know?
