Has anyone heard a reasonable explanation as to why we have to wait for 3 weeks for a computer algorithm that must take 3 minutes to run?!?!
I have started to distract myself by looking at real estate at my number #1. Probably not the healthiest strategy. Tivo also helps chip away at the hours in a day.

There was a great explanation of it on a thread I saw in the archives from last year:
"Close. The match algorithm was written in a variant of FORTRAN, and the hardware that can run it requires punch cards and a herd of oxen to power the three remaining modded-Atari 2600s available to run it.
That, or they have to wait for lightning to strike the clock tower at precisely 11:59 on March 20th to generate the 1.21 jiggawatts required to run the backup system located on Sevo Terrace in Republika Absurdistani."

I ran back to my parents' house tonight to grab my suit (medicine ball tommorrow night), and my mom sat me down and said 'I'm worried about you. I don't want you to freak out if you don't match high on your list'. And I was like 'thanks for the vote of confidence mom'.

It doesn't they release the results to the schools and programs first to allow for scramble.

Yes, but they release the results for the scramble just a few days before the main results, which I completely understand. That does not account for the other weeks. The program could have already run the algorithm multiple times at this point....The NRMP likes to be withholding apparently (any Arrested Development fans out there? Lucille: "Here, Buster, have a candy bar."
*takes the candy bar back*
"Oh, I'm being withholding. Look at me, getting off.")

Let's not forget that Tobias Funke was chief resident of psychiatry at MGH !
Michael: Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?
I think that's probably my favorite scene from my favorite show.
