...any couples applying to med schools together? any luck? is this too masochistic to even attempt?

(interestingly, the DO forum has a couple of these threads, but i couldn't find much in the MD forum...)

I think there are a few people doing it around here, with mixed success. It's hard enough getting into medical school, let alone trying to orchestrate two people getting into the same school.

Try a couple with both trying to apply MD/PhD, lol

Our strategy has/will involve moving to a state with a better instate advantage (to Ohio from Utah), applying in high concentration areas (Chicago, OH, PA, NYC, etc), applying DO heavy (+/- PhD due to the debt load, we'll have to see...), and might involve taking turns applying (since gender/race is just about the only difference).

Realistically, I'll be happy if we are in the same region (since we both aren't super competitive) and we'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it. In any case, I've seen a few threads but the gist of it has been that schools don't care what your personal life status is.

near impossible id say. Your best bet would be apply to areas that have a large number of med schools like chicago, NY, etc...and then start praying a ton lol. Hopefully if you are doing this you guys live in a state that is very friendly to IS applicants or something like maybe kentucky or something. If you both live in a place like cali, then i feel for you

My best friend's service in the Army should be done in the next two months or so, and we've always talked about how awesome would be if we attended the same school (for the first time since 8th grade... ha!). Hopefully, we'll at least be able to stay in the area (Philly, 4 MD and 1 DO school here) together. We'll see what happens.

It's not a common practice but it can be doable. First, both parties need a competitive application to be able to pick and choose(3.7+ and 32+). Without competitive stats, it basically a hail Mary. You'll get into medical school but it might just end up being in different states. Secondly, move to a state with high concentration of medical schools in the city. New York city alone has 7 MD schools(including 2 state schools) and 1 DO school. With competitive stats your odds are good in getting into one of these.

If you have time, move to New York and apply the next year.

Man, you guys are crazy.. two MD/PhD's?? You seem like you're dedicated and know what you're getting yourself into though. Best of luck!

Thanks for your input Elijah05 and MegaProjectile. I would say that we're pretty competitive (41/3.9 and 36/3.8) and our state schools are in-state friendly enough. I'll definitely take the advice about applying to Chicago/NY schools.
