Anyone know how many people from out-of-state get into Stony Brook? I imagine it's pretty low, but maybe some New Yorkers have a better idea. Buffalo doesnt accept many either correct?
when I interviewed at SB they told me my chances of getting in as an out-of-state applicant were slim to none.. The interviewer told me they had maybe a handful of out-of-state people in the last few years. But I got in and am out-of-state, so what the previous poster said may in fact be true.
hmm...ok thanks for the feedback. I'd really like to go to Stony Brook but I wasn't sure what my chances would be. I thought I'd have a better shot getting into Buffalo, but it seems it will be about the same chances...I'll have to think it over a little more.

It used to be that their class would usually have approx 2-3 out of staters.. but the PResident of the school wants to make the school a bit more diversified... so they are accepting more this year. So, if anything, this is a good cycle for you to apply... more seats available for you!
Did you interview yet?

Actually at my interview at Buffalo, a member of the admissions commitee said that they dont distinguish between in-state and out-of-state students. there are approximately 25% out of staters because there are statistically less out-of-state applicants. So, Buffalo is "fair" to all applicants.
Now, about stony brook, they may have a limit of out-of-staters, so that makes things a little harder for non-residents.
No I haven't applied yet to answer Dr. Bear. I will be applying this upcoming May in the next cycle - just trying to narrow down the list I will be applying to now.
