I was wondering if the out of state tuition is ever waived for somebody who gets in to a school out side his/her original state of residency. I am applying to a number of schools out of my state and I was just wondering about that.

Yes it is possible. After the first year at Ohio State you can apply for in state residency which cuts the tuition almost in half. I believe there are few other state schools which will do the same, but i'm not sure which ones.

In most of the states as far as I know, you can gain residency status after one year living there so the tuition wil automatically drop after 1 year. what I was asking about was the first year. I was wondering if any school waives the out of state tuition for the first year.

Sorry misunderstood your question. Well at Ohio State i tried to get my fiance in-state tuition for graduate school because she is from another state. Eventhough we will be married before school starts they won't let her claim residency for tuition purposes becuase i did not work in the state of ohio and pay taxes even though i have lived here for 25 years. So she is taking a year off and working. Bottom line is you may have a chance if you marry someone who lives in the state and works and pays taxes in that state, otherwise your best bet is to move yourself and sit out a year before applying.
