I am a Texas resident, but went to LSU for undergraduate. I want to go back to Texas (preferably UT system schools or Baylor) for medical school. I was wondering whether admissions officers will view me the same as any other TX resident, even though I went to Louisiana for undergrad? Thanks.

When I interviewed there were plenty of Texas residents who went out of state for college. Did you get a new drivers license? Did you pay out of state tuition? Can you put your parents address as your permanent address on applications?

This is the exact path I've gone through. As long as you still have a permanent address in Texas (your parent's address) you're good to go as a Texas resident for medical school.

I also didn't feel I was treated any differently than students from Texas universities if thats what you mean. I received interview invites everywhere I hoped to.

I am still a dependent on my parents for taxes and FAFSA, etc, and my parents own a home in Texas and a business (I saw on the TMDSAS website that this was criteria for having a domicile). I didn't get a new license, and I'm still registered to vote in Texas. Should I call TMDSAS just to make sure I am still a resident? I think I should be because when I file taxes in Louisiana I have also made sure to do it as a Texas resident.

I also have been charged for out of state tuition at LSU for every year I've applied. I saw on the TMDSAS website that they will not evaluate whether I am a resident until I submit the application. Did either of you have to submit material proving you were a resident? Was it anything other than just proof of address and driver's license? I am just a little paranoid because I really want to come back to Texas!

You're fine. I don't think you have anything to worry about- you're definitely a Texas resident. There was no hassle about proving my residency.

Yup you definitely won't have any problems. I went to college out of state and did a 1 year NIH fellowship in DC afterwards and I still had no troubles with residency. As long as you are only leaving the state to further your education and your parents' situation hasn't changed (ie they still live in Texas) you will be fine!
