Hey everyone, I just have a question. I have been looking at the school stats (especially at the out of state students each school accepts) trying to decide which ones to apply to. I have narrowed it down but, some schools say they accept VERY few out of state students. I asked the question once about UMDNJ and everyone was telling me to apply, that they show very little OOS applicants because it is easy to gain residency so everyone switches. How do I know which other schools this holds true for too? I don't want to waste my money applying to an out of state school when they dont even look at out of staters (for EX... I know Stony Brook accepts mainly NY residents) - I am in NY so I am just using them as an example, but what about others?? Fla, georgia, carolinas, Wvirg, etc... Thanks.

For Florida, they do accept out of state applicants, like 5 out of 80 each year. Although, it is probably competitive for these spots. I cant speak for the other schools you listed, but why pay out of state tuition for a state school unless some of these schools have locations, programs, curric., etc. that you want?

Similarily, this is why many out of state applicants apply to the cali schools because they are so desireable on many levels (location, p/f curric). I guess i am trying to ask, what are you looking for in these schools?

Well 5/80 for florida is small unless ur stellar dont bother
UNC, San Antonio, Texas arent too nice
Stony Brook gave me an interview but granted me the option to get on the waitlist ( i knew that going in but i know somebody there)
UMDNJ im from NJ- Dr. Wexlar (spelling i dont know) said there is no difference between instate vs out of state anymore at the school
uConn- im on the waitlist wants students from New England cuz theres no public skool there so...
UMICH im going there next year from nj so go figure.
Im just paying alot more but thats normal for any outta state school.

Hey, thanks for the response, basically I am interested in their programs, while location is cool, it doesnt mean that much to me. I'll deal with wherever it is (even if it's not sunny california), I don't want to pay out of state tuition, I am applying to my hometown schools, but I have to have other options (maybe I would like another school better on a visit, maybe I will get rejected by my state schools, etc...) some alternatives couldnt hurt.. There were a few schools I was looking at, but like I said in the original post, some of them accept very few OOS applicants, I just cant decipher which ones dont from the ones that have an easy residency policy. I dont want to even waste my time and money with somewhere like florida, because like you said - they accept less than 10% OOS - so my efforts would be better spent on another school. thanks

Hey, thanks for the response, when you said UNC isnt too nice, do you mean the school itself, or their outlook towards out of state applicants??

Keep in mind too that even though some schools let in a few out of state residents, a lot of times preference is given to students applying from neighboring states without a dental school of their own.
