My question is not so much the outfit, but is it appropriate to carry a purse/bag? i like having my "essentials" with me at all times, plus maybe some notes i could go over before the interview. i have a big black bag, its dressy, but im not sure the size is too big, about 11" x 14". (it can fit notebooks/magazines). any advice? thanks!

I carried a smaller bag to mine. But honestly, I don't think it matters. If you're a good applicant, having a purse with you is not going to keep you from getting accepted. On the other hand, if you don't have a good application, I don't think a super cute bag will save you, either 🙂 So if you want to have all your stuff with you, then take the bag.

There's a thread on this over in the optometry section of this forum. Check it out. I think it mentions something about purses. If not, I think you would be just fine bringing one (I'm a guy though, so take my advice with a grain of salt).

a note on the bag....my undergraduate school just had a fashion show thing on what to wear to interviews/what to bring. they recommended not bringing overly large bags. she said that a purse large enough to stick your portfolio in would work, but definitely no larger.
