I have been in the workforce for about 4-5 years as an outpatient pharmacist (I've worked retail, hospital outpatient and clinic settings). I will be starting a residency this July and am worried about the transition into inpatient. I will be staffing every other weekend in the inpatient pharmacy and have no clue what to expect or what is required in terms of prior learning.
Do most people starting residencies already have inpatient training during their pharmacy school rotations/internships?
Since I've been out of school a while, and my education was very weak in hospital pharmacy to begin with, there is a considerable gap in my knowledge of inpatient. Has anyone done this transition (not necessarily in a residency setting)? What would be helpful in terms of trying to bridge the gap? Are there any readings I can do to prepare myself better?
Please help as this is causing me a lot of anxiety!
Thanks in advance for your replies... 😳
