2 separate questions:

1. can a physician in NY state prescribe meds for themselves? i dont want judgments or opinions on this, just the facts, any links, supporting documentation, or better yet experiences, ie, "yes, I prescribe myself viagra all the time and no one has questioned it."

2. does anyone know how you calculate 12 months FTE (full time equivalent) which is the outpt hours needed in order to be board eligible? does this equal 1000 hrs? if so how did u meet this and still move on to child after 3 yrs? any thoughts? what hours can be counted toward this?

I don't think it's calculated as a specific number of hours - rather as FTEs. So either a full year of residency on outpatient, or two years half time. In terms of moving on to child, I think the outpatient hours from child can double count for the adult requirement, but I'm not 100% certain on this.

anyway to verify or anyone who can say how their residency program accounts for the 12 months of Full time equivalents on outpatient? we are told about a specific number of hrs. i dont see that anywhere in the acgme regs. is someone just inventing their own requirements here?

doc samson is right - I had to call the rrc to get clarification myself a while back. If you have other specific questions, you can always call them. As for child outpatient doublecounting, that is true to a limit, but you can see no more than a certain percentage of child cases your outpatient year or else you will need to extend outpatient time. I think it is 20% but am not sure.

just want to add - we don't have any specific hour requirement, but the 1000 at your program sounds like 20 hrs/wk times 52 weeks/yr.

very very helpful. thank you!

how do i contact rrc?
