Outside of Class

Most schools have a lot of activities outside of school. I can only speak for DMU but they have things such as intramurals, club events, speakers, social events, ect in the evening. Most of the students in the class also hang out, outside of school. Depending on what you are into they go to sporting events, bars, parties, ect. Some students even have teams in competitive sports leagues around town such as softball, soccer, and basketball.
The catch is no one can tell you how your class will be in school, some classes are really close others don't want to have anything to do with each other. In general, there will be someone of like mind that you can hang out with, and at DMU it is nice that you meet the 250 DO students, the 40 PA students, and the 40 PT students also.

Yeah come to DMU 😀
I'm from Texas too and I've already met like 15 people from DMU. The orientation activities look pretty fun and they ought to give a chance to meet all the DPMs (and many others)from your class.
Facebook also makes it easy. Sometimes you can fool people into thinking you're not a total dork!
