This is probably a very dumb question but I wanted to ask it before I made a decision and then found out some consequences I didn't know about or aspects i had not considered. I graduated from a US school this past june but didn't do ERAS my senior year in order to explore various specialities with electives fourth year and to do some traveling. Now i have been told by some PD's during my interview trail "you know you are eligible to accept a position outside the match" which is something i didn't know and hadn't considered. if i am offered from my top place a position outside the match is there any issue just accepting it, being done with this hoop jumping and jump instead on a plane to spend the rest of the year in asia. i know probably a no brainer but i wasn't sure if there was any advantage of just going through the match besides this.

whether you want to use the match or not is a seperate issue, but anyone who is NOT a graduating senior at an allopathic school is allowed to sign outside the match, including you in your current situation. if your true #1 offers you a spot, why not take it?

Dude...if your #1 program offers you a spot outside the match, just take it. If you don't have to go thru the match, why do so?

Ditto. There is no advantage to you going through the match. Just make sure you sign a contract before you withdraw from the match.
