This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone have any LOR templates or an example of what an OUTSTANDING letter of recommendation SHOULD say>???

sweet! You got somebody who's gonna let you write the letter yourself?!

Dude, you're so wrong for that!! I have my LORs already, but I think my instructors could have embellished me a little more than they did. They're good, but they're not GREAT!

I never should have given up animation rights.

Er, I mean... I shouldn't have waived my right to see my LORs. However, I was told by an interviewer that they were amazing. 😀

i emailed or gave the people i asked for a letter from an information sheet about myself, my grades, accomplishments, maturity level, dedication to dentistry, etc.
it ended up being about 2 pages long. i wrote it putting emphasis on what schools want to see so that when they wrote my letters they would naturally write about the most important stuff about me. i heard my letters were really good; an interviewer said that one professor just thought the world of me. That's especially funny since the professor he named i didn't actually ever really work with or know that well, and that's why my info sheet paid off 😀

I asked from all my fav. prof. and the ones that know me very very well...

This was my Biochem prof. ( I took with him 4 classes)

Organic chem ( 3 semsters)

Biology (3 semesters)

History (2 semesters)

Psyc. ( I have a minor with 18 credits. 12 of them with the same prof.)

I asked all of them to write that I am awesome and to lie about it if needed...

If it is a dentist, they should include something like "when he is done, I hope he will consider joining my practice". I met with some of my teachers individually when I asked them to write LoR so that they could ask me any questions and get to know me better. i wanted them to feel comfortable in what they were writing, and then I could ask them if they could include my statistics compared to others in the class and other classes they taught. One teacher said that I was the only student he ever had to get 95% or above on every test and lab practical. It helps to have them write something that stands out more than the "he is a great student" and "he is respectful"

Just make sure those people you asked to write them know that every applicant will be getting LoR, so yours need to stand out more than others. and make sure you did not ask a teacher who doesnt like you or that gave you a bad grade. I actually heard of a student that asked a teacher to write one, and the teacher said he should ask someone else since she could not honestly write anything good about him. Pretty harsh, but it is a good idea she was upfront about it.

Letters of recommendation are as important as everyone thinks they are. Adcoms see thousands of them and they all say the same thing.

"_________ (name goes here) is a great student and a strong leader and should be considered for your program, blah blah blah....".

This is not to say that your letters won't be read. But I think they will only set you apart from everyone else if there is something negative said about you.
