Hi! Any thoughts about these schools and which is better?

I don't know much about either, but I do have a friend at Oakland who enjoys it. Based on our conversations he has told me that Oakland has great volunteer opportunities and a student body that loves to be a part of the community. He also said that they have one of the best ophthalmology research programs, so I guess that's cool if you like eyes. I know my friend is planning on attempting to match into a really competitive specialty so I mean N=1, but I guess that's something.

This about sums up any specific knowledge about the school, but I'm sure if you have any Oakland specific questions I can ask my friend and get back to you.

Rosalind Franklin is older and likely has a greater reputation in the Chicagoland area. Research opportunities are certainly less than northwestern or u chicago. Beaumont is newer so has less of an alumni network. I think they are equivalent actually in terms or pros and cons so pick where you want to live. GL.

Keep in mind that RF is in the city of North Chicago, about 45 minutes (?) north of Chicago. It's not on the north side of the city of Chicago itself as one might be led to believe. I think this results in a lot of M3's moving into the city and then shuttling around to various rotations.

RF does not have its own teaching hospital, and rotations are done at multiple area hospitals. I've heard it's harder to establish/maintain faculty connections when you are so spread out across multiple institutions. Don't know anything about OUWB though!

This. RF is actually 13 miles from the Wisconsin/Illinois border. So not in Chicago.

Had a buddy of mine recently match his dream plastics residency from here, so the sky is the limit! I think they have many really really good residencies with a lot of potential and the hospital is located all in one place for most of their clinicals. Some research not as much as umich or northwestern. It’s a solid option matches really well and has a ton of its own residencies. I would choose Beaumont.

If you want to be near Chicago go for RFU, but otherwise OUWB provides much stronger clinical training despite its new name and they have so many in-house residencies/fellowships you'll be better off.

Check out the recent discussion in the OUWB thread as you make your decision. There's been a lot of input from current students on there recently.
