Just out of curiosoity, what schools do you all think are the most over and underrated in us news research rankings? I'm aware the rankings don't matter that much but I find the general perception of prestige to be interesting. I think USF and Jefferson are very underrated

Honestly it's hard to say. There are so many different metrics to evaluate schools and basically all of us are influenced by our biases (where we got in / got rejected). Why do you think Jeff and USF are underrated?

I work with graduates of both and they are every bit as good and in a lot of cases better than the residents from more prestigious comparable schools. In Florida, UF is the top dog but USF students on away rotations are much more impressive than are a lot of the UF students.

These rankings matter little except to pre-meds and medical student deans.

And honestly, a pre-med's opinion of a medical school is mere smoke out of the anus.

The best medical school is the one that accepts you*

*assuming that school is in the United States

The most overrated medical school is the one where the student ends up thinking an increase in perceived prestige allows a decrease in applied effort.

The most underrated medical school is the one where the student ends up thinking a perceived decrease in prestige necessitates an increase in applied effort.

I think any education is largely what you make of it, and that makes it different for everyone. There might be specific parts of a program that aren't as "amazing" as is general consensus (facilities, clerkship sites, local breweries, monogrammed sweater vests), but it's hard to extend that to entire schools.

Didn't find anything special about Jefferson. A mid tier school in a very desired location with a solid program. But they are one of these in almost all major city. I wouldn't call it under rated as well because the only reason I applied or know about this school is due to the great things I hear people say about it on these forums.

Jefferson is famous for studies on their own students.
Everyone knows that merely being studied improves outcomes! Even when you are in the placebo arm...

That's cool, I hope I didn't come across as knocking the school because I think its a very good school but it is far from under rated.

When I said underrated I more meant it should be up near Einstein, UF, Tufts, those kinds of schools, not that it should be top 20 or anything.

jeff is seen similar to Tufts and Einstein hence why I said what I said. A mid range school with a good program in a desirable location

Bastyr University School of Naturopathic Medicine is a gem to keep an eye out for, very underrated but quickly rising through the ranks

I mean, as long as you're okay with practicing in only 38% of the country.
