Overall DPM acceptance rate

From what I understand about 70% of applicants get into pod school somewhere in one application cycle. How can this be if each school only seems to accept about 30-35% of applicants. Assuming each school accepts the best applicants should't the acceptance percentage be lower overall? Every school I checked had an acceptance rate of less than 40% except for OCPM and NYCPM which did not post there stats.

Each applicant is accepted to multiple schools though.

It is probably because they count the people who are entering and the ones who gave up their seat
