Is it normal to have professors that are also in program administration, e.g. professors that are fieldwork coordinators and interim directors of the program?

I am going to NAU and am worried because there are a lot of administrative changes (expected growing pains for a new program), and I feel that there are conflicts of interest happening e.g. no checks and balances for a professor because they are the interim director, inherent bias of a fieldwork coordinator who is also a professor.

Any thoughts?

Currently I go to a school where our fieldwork coordinator teaches a year 1 fall and spring class and our program director teaches 3-4 of our classes, one of them being UE/hands, one of the biggest classes!

I don't find that it is a conflict of interest at all, I don't feel a difference being in the class with our program director versus another full time faculty member. My school is on the hunt for another professor though to teach the courses that our fieldwork coordinator is doing.. since fieldwork alone is a full time job! 🙂

the fieldwork coordinator in my program teaches capstone and theory, and the program director teaches like 5 classes
