Can anyone give a nice overview of what oxidation and reduction reagents we need to know, and what we need to know about them? (ex. KMnO4 takes a primary alcohol to carboxylic).

The general rule is oxidizing agents have alot of oxygen(KMnO4, CrO3,ect...) in them and reducing agents will have alot of hydrogen (LiAlH4, NaBH4,ect...) in them. For biological redox, you have to know NAD+ and FAD are oxidizing agents, whiles the biological reducing agents are NADH and FADH2.
