Hey guys, SOO I am an incoming sophmore who lost a freshman semester to another major (I changed my mind due to my interest in Medicine and in the spring I took on Bio1 and 2)

My question is, in order for me to take chem 1 and 2, physics 1 and 2 and orgo 1 and 2, I need to take intro to chem co-req with precalc (I placed badly on math, so I need precalc, and the intro is just suggested to gain a better foundation of chem).

This sets me back..i would end up taking precalc and intro to chem my fall sem. of sophmore year

spring of sophmore: chem 1 and calc 1

summer after sophomore: chem 2 and calc 2

junior year fall: orgo 1 and physics

junior year spring: orgo 2 and physics 2

THEN, I would need to take MCATS right after and be applying my junior year at the same time.

Does this seem slightly crazy, should I just wait and apply my senior year, I dont mind taking a gap year (I wanted to go on a medical mission abroad SO badly) but would it hurt my chances?

I've heard many times that the best time to take the MCAT is right after you've completed the pre-reqs. So no, that doesn't sound crazy. It sounds like it might work well for you.

just curious, do you go to school in Florida?

The schedule you have is tight but doable and reasonable. Though you still have a decent bit of time ahead of you before you have to take the MCAT I would seriously suggest aiming to take it by July of your junior year which would mean starting some time that spring. The schedule looks fine though, best of luck.

but i think for you, applying during your senior yr would be a better idea.

OP, I have a very similar situation to you. I am doing college in seven semesters rather than eight because I have credits from community college that I did in high school. My first semester of the seven, I was planning to go into nursing and I only took one science class (anatomy and physiology). I decided to change my major to biology and pursue med school midway through my first semester (of seven). So last year I took bio 1 and 2 and gen chem 1 and 2. This year, as a junior, I will be taking physics and ochem. I don't think it's going to be a problem. I'm taking the MCAT on May 22nd and I have just finished physics and ochem, so they should be pretty fresh in my mind. I will need to review gen chem. I'm doing well on full length practice tests despite not taking physics and ochem yet, so I feel that taking the MCAT right after finishing my prereqs is going to be fine.
