I'm getting contradictory message from Kaplan

The book definition of ovulation is that it is "the release of the mature ovum from the ovarian follicle"

But then in a discrete q explanation it says: When a sperm penetrates the the outer layers of the secondary oocyte [after ovulation presumably] it completes meiosis II to become a mature ovum.

So, is the ovulation the release of a mature or immature egg?

Ovulation releases a secondary oocyte. "Ovum" is the term for a secondary oocyte that has been penetrated by a sperm.
