I want to own a pharmacy because i think I can have more flexibility interacting with patients and practice my training without limitation set by Walgreens or CVS. Anyone thinking of owning a pharmacy after graduationl? How are you preparing for it?

I plan on owning an independent pharmacy in the future. But I'll probably work for about 3-5 years after I graduate at a chain to save up some money first and pay off half my loans at least.

Join NCPA, and if your school doesn't have a chapter, then start one up.

national community pharmacists association
the majority of the members own their own pharmacies
see what you can find online..

thank you every one for responding.

I plan to do the same i.e. work for a couple of years before i go out on my own. Partly, I am just wondering how feasible it would be to own and run a pharmacy with 2-5 years of working experience but I guess it will be something I will find out once I start working.

Hi Colleagues!

When you open up your pharmacies in the future, don't forget to have a patient care center (like what Walgreens is starting to do!). That's a way to keep the profession moving up! Look into IACP (Insitute of the Avancement in Community Pharmacy?? I think). It's an organization with goals to promote the advancement of community pharmacy towards more patient care.

DrPharm,

Could you tell us a little more about IACP? I looked their website up, but there is not a whole lot of useful information in terms of ideas and what they do. I appreciate it. Thanks!
