Owning a 2nd practice?

Just curious because one my gf's coworker's nephew has 2. How would that all run...would the dentist mainly work at one or have a couple dentists working at the other one and really have no part in it as far as working there.

Have employee dentists at second office. They are basically an associate, just not in the same building.

Or work a few days at each office. This is done frequently in rural and mountain areas.

My family dentist recently started a second practice. He works at his primary practice 3.5 days/wk and the new one 1.5 days/wk with associates there the rest of the time. I know he was also working a Saturday or two every month while he was getting it started... I don't know if he still is though.
