Indeed, and I'm paying for it now!

Did everyone get that form in the mail saying who their advisors are? My advisor is the same Doc that interviewed me! Coincidence?

Form in the mail? You mean the letter that came with the rest of the stuff in the orientation packet?

Yeah, it was a letter enclosed in the orientation packet that came in the mail.

I hear ya rager, I'm hella bored here in AZ!

I just checked my e-mail and I recieved my first e-bill from Columbia. Has anybody else?

missbonnie said:

Same here. I got double-billed for Bard Hall because it's in both anticipated and current charges.

Yeah, that happened to me too.

I, too, am confused about Bard Hall appearing twice on the e-bill. And why does it say summer?

Wow, what is up with all the charges on the e.bill. For one, the total award amount on the e.bill does not match that in my earlier award letter. To make matters worse I have almost a $1000 due. Like I don't have enough problems coming up with the funds needed for relocation 🙁

Is the total award amount on the e-bill half of what your award letter states? That's the only thing I could think of... since we're being charged half a year.

Thanks for the reply Sarah. The e-bill award was actually less than half. It does not include the stipends I was initially awarded. Hopefully this gets included later but this was definetely a dissapointment. Oh well 🙁

I just spoke with Sandra Garcia, Associate Director of financial planning, and she told me that the e-bill we recieved was not entirely accurate. This is because we have not yet registered for classes, which will be taken care of during orientation week. As of present, our e-bills are virtual representations of what the actual charges and credits will be - so do not fret, this will be worked out in due time.

How's this for an end to the summer? So, I just recovered from some nasty infection that gave me an extremely sore throat and kept me in bed for like 5 days. My primary doc referred me to an ENT and this morning, he recommended that I have a tonsillectomy! 🙁 I really, really don't want surgery (nevermind the pain he kept talking about and the complications). Oh well. . .

P.S. When he found out that I was going to med school, he started quizzing me on stuff. Hmm. . .so it begins. (But, he was just teasing. Nice guy, really.)

Hope all the rest of your summers are going well!!

I think mine had an enclosure to open.

Although I'm not going to be an M1 like the rest of y'alls, I'm gonna be a first year at the Mailman School of Public Health. It seems as though you all have already gotten to know each other pretty well! 😳 Anywho, I recently found out that I got housing and since I haven't had a chance to visit the area yet I was wondering if anyone had any idea about the apartments in 106 Haven. If you guys have seen them or know anything about them, do let me know. Take care and I'm sure I'll see some of you around! 🙂

If you used your columbia e-mail, there should be a link under the Part(s) section that says - 1 unnamed. Click on that link. If that does not help, try clicking on this link: https://admissions.columbia.edu/?
This will bring you to the student loan entrance/exit interview section, but you will need your applicant ID, which should be in the e-mail you recieved. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I decided to wait for the tonsillectomy. It's not crucial that I have it now. (Plus, I don't wanna be in agonizing pain!! 😛 ) And yes, this orientation is going to so rock!

Awwww, thanks guys! You're so sweet.

It's good to be 24. Nice round, even number. 😀

I'll be kicking it back in Vermont for the next few weeks before school starts. Hooray for no responsibilities (however short-lived THAT might be)!

Hey all,

I hope everyone is having a good summer. (Happy Belated birthday Sarah). I haven't been around SDN much lately since I've been crazy busy. But I'm up for drinks the Saturday before orientation if it's still on.

Whats up all, I just got back from a killer road trip up the Cali coast. Route 1 is friggin awesome! Anyways, I hope everyone is enjoying themselves this summer! By the way, happy belated birthday to Sarah.

Hey all... just passing on something from a friend from undergrad, who will also be an MSI at P&S this year. She asked me to pass this along to any Columbia students I know...

Hi guys,
I know this is random but I'm sending you guys info about
a job opportunity for this upcoming year. I will be
working for a tutoring company this year and I was asked
to advertise with other Columbia students to see if they
were interested in tutoring as well. The time committment
is pretty minimal (4-6 hrs per week) and you can make up
to $50 per hour, so this is a great way to make some extra
money on the side during the school year. This company
focuses on hiring grad and med students as tutors (it
already collarborates with Cornell) and is run by a Yale
grad who is a really great guy. I actually tried to send
this as a mass email to the Columbia listserve but it
didn't work, so if any of you know a way to send a mass
email about this please let me know. And please forward
this to any other Columbia students you know. This is
really a great opportunity. See you guys in a few weeks
and enjoy the rest of your summers!
Kristen

Here is the information about the company:

*********************************************************

Job Description:

I am looking for several outgoing, energetic
students who are interested in tutoring (advising)
students in middle and high school. Experienced tutors
are preferred, but not required. Tutors (advisors) should
have a comprehensive background in math and science.
Other subjects will also be considered.

Where:

Advising takes place in the students?
apartments. Most students are on the upper east or west
sides. Transportation to and from the apartment is the
responsibility of the advisor.

When:

Most students want to meet with their advisor
twice a week, generally in the evenings. I am interested
in hiring advisors who can work with a minimum of two
students (usually four hours per week). Please keep in
mind that this is a year-long commitment since it is too
unsettling for students to switch advisors mid-year.

If you are interested, please email your resume to
[email protected]. In the email, please include a
brief statement saying why you believe you would be a good
tutor (advisor). I will contact you and arrange an
interview.

Sincerely,

Jody Steinglass

My direct deposit request was denied. I have to pick up my check during orientation week. So much for moving to NYC a week early 🙁

and supereagles, I'm feeling a bit lonely over here being the only int'l student in my class 🙁

Hope it lives up to the hype-anyway it is about time I gave up the "vibrant" nightlife.

Stay strong bro 👍

Thank goodness... now I can finally start planning my time around something other than the Dawson's Creek rerun schedule. 😉

Question- did anyone's parents receive info about the white coat ceremony (specifically, on parking info, etc)? My parents are asking about this, and I've had some problems with the mail system this summer, so....

Dawson's Creek. . .Passions . . . we all have our idiosyncracies.

90210 and saved by the bell, enough said.

Two hours of ER reruns on TNT-i couldn't have picked a better time to reconsider my career choice. 🙄
