To all P4 students,

When are you guys gonna start applying for jobs and residencies?

My friend that graduated in 2011 told me she started applying for jobs in Oct/Nov of her P4 year....so that would be 4 or 5 months away for us. Is that when you all will start applying for jobs?

My friend found out she got a job in Nov with Target! However, she also told me she knew someone that did the hiring there.

How about residencies? My friend told me she didn't know b/c she never wanted to do one. She graduated with a 4.0 but still didn't want to do one which was crazy! haha...When are you guys applying for residencies? Around Oct/Nov too?

Thanks guys. 🙂

So you think I should wait till AFTER I get my license? Isn't that after graduation?

My friend told me she got a job before she got licensed though....but then she also told me she knew the guy that did the hiring...maybe that is why? 😕

This is so confusing...when should I apply for residencies?

If you're interning somewhere, you might interview/get an offer before graduation. For residencies, check with the program, they'll all have different dates and requirements.

I most likely will not even apply for residencies and I am not interested in doing one at all...I am just asking b/c I am curious...sorry if I haven't been doing extensive research on this topic.

Can someone get hired before getting licensed if they didn't intern there before? R you gonna start applying in Oct/Nov?

If you want to apply for a residency, you would need to register with ASHP matching program and apply to the residencies you are interested in. Most people apply I think around November/December and starts interviewing in Jan/Feb? You can find more information on ASHP's website.

Yes, I was given a job offer around November of my P4 year and I never worked for that company before.

Thanks...I'll go look on that website now. Thank you very much.

Did you have very good connections? Is that how you got the offer? was it hospital or retail? how did you get the offer?

Do you recommend that I start applying in Oct/Nov for jobs? I am a P4 now...graduate in May 2013. Thanks.

I had a 4.0 my P1 and P2 year....my P3 year went poorly....so I am not even sure if I am competitive enough anymore....*sigh* so I don't even know why I am so worried about it. 🙄

I got my job offer from a career fair that was held at my school. I was offered two retail jobs both in November. I think when companies interview at career fairs, they are willing to hold the spot for you when you graduate. For jobs that you actively search for on job websites like Indeed.com, I'm not so sure they are willing to offer positions nearly half a year before you get licensed. I think most of them want you to be licensed first.

If you graduated in 2010, your experience doesn't generalize to current market conditions.

Hi SHC1984 and RX2010 what schools did you guys attend?
Just curious.

For retail jobs most classmates signed on with the company they've been interning at, others found jobs at the school's career fairs. My school organized an interview day where students can sign up to interview with any company that came. This was toward the end of Dec / early Jan. Ask the recent grads, i'm sure most schools do this.

So I guess the best way to find a job is on career fairs at school?
