First Aid 2014 pg 255 list a bunch of drugs for p450 system. so, inducers increase elimination and inhibitor slow elimination of the substrate drugs. But what happen if you use 2 substrates at once, say a statin and an antidepressants. does one act as a inhibitors for the other? thnks

I learned about this in drug mechanisms this past semester. Ritonavir and saquinavir, protease inhibitors. which are also cyp p450 inhibitors, so you can take them together, but at lower doses because they inhibit each others metabolism. This is known as PI boosting.

Yes two drugs which are strong substrates for the same isoenzyme can compete with each other for binding sites and raise concentrations of each other without being true inducers or inhibitors of that enzyme. These interactions tend to be minor though, and I can think of few clinically relevant types of this interaction.
