I am considering going for a PA program if I can't get into med school. The school I was looking at is University of North Dakota. For the requirements it says you need 3 years of full time experience in your health related field. This makes it sound like you couldnt volunteer to get that done so I was just wondering if anyone knew exactly what that meant. Thanks!

My girlfriend is applying to PA schools right now. She uses a website called PA forums (I think if you just type pa forums into google you should find it). She finds that useful. And from what I understand, yes, you have to have an actual job, not just volunteering.

Hope that helps.

I'd also look very closely at the stats for PA school. At least here in Chicago, the median GPAs of PA school's incoming class hovered around a 3.7/3.8, but ymmv.

forgive me if i am wrong, but i think that the 3 year requirement means that you need to work for 3 years in a career related to medicine such as a EMT like these ladies

If you are worried about a backup plan try a entry-level MSN program and become a NP
