Hello,

Can somebody experienced with PA laws tell me what would happen if a licensed pharmacy intern failed a preemployment drug screen? I am concerned that it would be reported to the board/SARPH and the applicant would then have problems on their hand. The applicant is not certain whether enough time has elapsed to pass the test, and being unsure of the license consequences of failing, is not sure whether it is even worth trying. Thank you.

so, you want to help someone who uses drugs to skirt a drug test so it won't have the chance of affecting their employment as a pharmacist?

Serious responses, please. Thank you.

If someone isnt smart enough to know how to pass a drug test, then they shouldnt be using drugs while going into a healthcare field. Seriously. Theres a reason why they are known informally as intelligence tests

I am surprised the thread hasn't been locked yet as a TOS violation, as essentially any advice the OP is given helps aid someone in breaking the law.

IBTL!!

Perhaps you should consult an attorney, the PA pharmacy board, and/or the employer to find out the answers to the above questions. I also would suggest avoiding contact with people who abuse drugs, guilt by association and all. :scared: 😏

IBTL!!

He's not asking how to beat the test, but rather the consequences of stupidity. While it's not the best place to ask, it doesn't violate TOS to do so.

Tell him to go to a public place, and for him/her to put their right hand on top of their head, and their left hand on their belly...start turning their hands clockwise at the same time, and everything will be okay... seriously I heard this works.

Is this a 1x incident, or a habit? I don't konw about PA specifically, but most states have programs to help impaired medical professionals (including pharmacists) get treatment without jeopardizing their license (well, their license may be jeopardized if they don't comply with the treatment, ...but the goal is to keep them practicing, not to pull their license.) I'd suggest that if the intern in question has a "habit', they may want to look into possible treatment.

As for the ramifications on their license if they test positive...again I'm not sure of PA specifically, but most states reporting is voluntary. Whether or not its reported to the state will depend on the employer. Ethically, an employer is supposed to report it, but not all employers do. If it is reported, then yes, that will more than likely affect their license (they would probably be required to enter a treatment program as a condition of getting/keeping their license...which is why if this person has a problem, it would be in their best interests to voluntary enter a treatment program.)

My friend reports this as a one time incident. Thanks.

It's pretty alarming how many marijuana related threads there are and how many pharmacists are responding, seemingly ok with it. If I were a patient, I would want the right to know if the intern counseling me was an illegal drug abuser. As a pharmacist whose license can be in danger when responsible for an interns actions, do you want that intern smoking weed? I would certainly hope not.

Is ratHer have my intern smoking some illegal weed on the weekend than taking legal amphetamines and opiods. We are highly educated peoples, we should be able to use you critical thinking skills to decide if something is illegal for legitimate reasons or purely political ones. Abortions are just about illegal in some states for pitical reasons, I'd have no issues if my tech went and got one illegally or travelled out of state to get one. Same idea

I think it's hypocritical to demonize weed while dispensing infinitely more harmful and abusable drugs like the are candy

I'm pretty sure I'd rather have an intern on amphetamines. Imagine they'd get a lot more accomplished and be far less distracted.

Where did the OP say it was marijuana? Didn't see that question get answered.

Why do these threads immediately turn into the argument of whether or not weed should be legal? That isn't the topic. The topic is popping hot on a drug test.

You are the one that started going off on the idea of recreational weed use first.

YOU STARTED IT!!! YOU STARTED IT!!! I mentioned marijuana use. The next person went into a whole tangent about

Not once did I ever bring the entire legality issue up. This is about a drug test, does it really matter what the illegal substance is?

More than likely it is weed. Pills will be out of your system in 2-3 days and weed could be anywhere from 2 weeks- 2 months... To be in a situation where you could possibly be tested at any time, smoking weed is one of the more stupid things you could possibly do. You must love taking risks...

Stop being so dramatic. You know very well that people who work at CVS don't get lunches.
