Is the proposal to make a bridge from PA to MD alive?
A friend of mine is finishing PA school and is thinking of moving on to MD in the future.

when it happens it will more likely be PA to DO (but not anytime soon.)
tell your friend to just suck it up and go to medschool now and not hold his breath waiting for a bridge that is probably at least 10 yrs away.....

I don't know if I necessarily agree with this, and I usually agree with most anything emedpa says, but PA to DO would be the same thing as PA to MD, I don't expect that DO schools will shorten there curriculum for a PA. Atleast they didn't for me 😉

Perhaps some shorter clinical portions for PA would be good, but even a newbie out of PA school is totally different than a PA that's been practicing for 5 years or longer, and a new PA not even in practice wanting to go to medical school, I wouldn't want them to skip any of the clinical portions, because they just aren't seasoned enough to be able to do that.

In addition the amount of information in medical school is substantially more than that during PA school. I don't think that you could guarantee continuity of education by dismissing some requirements for PA's and shorten medical school for them. By making them go through it all, it assures an even field for all and that they've been presented everything, etc for a physicians education. Trust me I know, I've done one path, and still on the second path and it's more than what PA school was.

Please just let this thread die. There is nothing good that is going to come of it.

No offense to the OP, this topic is just a powderkeg.

agree, let it die. this has been beaten to death in prior threads here already. if interested do a search.

It will happen when there is shortage of applicants to MD and DO schools. That is when hell freezes over.

I don't know what to do, I'm always in the dark
I'm living in a powder-keg and giving off sparks

I really need you tonight

Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start ...

Once upon a time there was light in my life
And now there's only love in the dark

Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

I never read the original thread at the time and the search did not come up with it. So I decided to re-light the powder keg. I have to admit that occasionally the anarchist in me gets ahold of the controls.

Actually I was just curious if there was some concrete steps toward the idea. And, the practical obstacles to make it work may make it too problematic.

The anarchist in me also wants to stir up the DNP controversy also, but I took some Haldol and am sleeping it off.
