Anyone out there hear anything about either of these 2 PsyD programs (Pace and C.W. Post)?
I was wondering which has a better reputation as a stronger program.

Hi -

They are very different programs - Pace is school/clinical CHILD, whereas CWPost is simply clinical, without a specific emphasis on child or adult.
Another difference is that Pace is VERY psychodynamicaly oriented in its clinical work, wereas CWPost goes out of its way to guarantee that you get experience in both Psychodynamic AND CBT - and its Faculty is split pretty much down the middle along those lines.

I know there are theoretical differences, I was wondering more about personal experiences in the programs, though.

My friend in CWPost loves it - says all the docs are nice/friendly, and the atmosphere is very warm, if a bit intense (but thats every program).

My friend at Pace, on the other hand, claims that the program is very pedantic, and that the threat of failure is used as a motivational tool.

Doesn't Pace have an open house on monday, and CWPost have one on tuesday?

So you got accepted to both? What are you looking at besides reputation?

I was indeed accepted to both. I am pretty sure that I am going to choose CW Post, I just wanted to see what others heard about the programs.

If you read further on the website, you'll see that most/all 1st-3rd year students are given an assistantship that diminishes the bill by about $10000 a year, so the final cost would be in the $22000 range for the year. Also, the tuition in the 4th and 5th year are much cheaper (under 10 grand for the fourth and even less for the 5th) so that may lessen the financial burden a bit.
Overall, I fyou are looking into PsyD programs you are going to be paying for your education. If you are looking for a cheap way out, try to get into a practice-oriented PhD program.

I've heard that CW Post is fairly rare amongst Psy.D programs that actually does offer a decent amount of financial aid. Good luck!

Hi. I just graduated from Pace's School/Clinical Child Psych program. I think it's unfair to say that Pace is heavily psychodynamic in orientation. I found there to be a mix of professors with different backgrounds. I happened to like my time at Pace actually. I ended up externing at a hopsital with a predominately psychodynamic orientation, but my internship supervisor was cognitive-behavioral. The curriculum at Pace will expose you to all orientations and does not push a certain philosophy or theory.

Yes, certain professors have more of a difficult reputation than others, but I found mostly all the professors to be very approachable. Even enjoyable, lol. The best part about Pace I think is that they have a lot of connections in many schools, clinics and hospitals, which will help when it comes to later years and placements.
