Guys, I have a question on UoP's alternate list statistics.

How many openings are currently available for fall 2007 class?

In the past, how many students were selected from UoP's alternate list?

I'm asking because I had an interview for the alternate list at the end of January. I am still waiting to hear from teh admissions office.

I really do want to attend Pacific!

Call them up, convey for yourself how much you want to go there. Tell them if they give you an offer, you will attend. They really want people that want them as their #1 choice.

I start there this year so I don't know details on numbers but I'd be willing a significant number do come off the waiting list. Visit the Pacific '10 thread and you'll see there are alot of us and everyone is really excited so I think you should beg for a spot and be part of the cool kids club!

best of luck

I am interested in CA schools.. does Uop favor CA residents and alumni connections?? ( i know ALL schools favor that to an extend) but does Uop STRONGLY favor CA and alumni ppl?? Can't help but question this b/c according to predents.com there are people with low Gpa and average DAT scores that got accepted (CA resident) versus people with stellar DAT/GPA that are from out of state...with no interviews at all...

Pacific has a couple feeder schools that lots of their students come from...but their private so residency doesn't play into their financial decisions on accepting students.

It seems Pacific ways heavily on alumni support for their applicant decisions...seems like they trust their alumni's decisions to support you as an applicant.

I see, so if you are not from a feeder school or have NO alumni connections then your chances are lower...(that explains why someone with a 25 didn't get interviewed) I am not making fun of the school at all. Its their school so its their descison but I was just wondering why some qualified people didn't get in. So I guess I shouldn't apply there then...

Also note that person got rejected, without interview from 3 other schools, had a single interview and acceptance.

It seems to me this has less to do with their "Not having connections at UoP" and a lot more to do with "Something wrong with their application"

Are we talking about the same person?? I am talking about Luv2golf, he got accepted into all the schools he applied to except uop and he got a 25AA. Here is his predent info http://www.predents.com/?page=user&user_id=1955
Again not to make fun of the school at all, I believe a school has the right to pick who ever they want b/c its THEIR school, but I just wonder why this person isn't accepted into uop when they are obviously more quailfied then some others. 😕 (I am saiding all this b/c I need some CA schools that I can applied too with only a 21.5AA that will actually give me a chance...😀 )

Ah, we were talking about someone else. My best guess would be their state residency, it seems like UoP likes to pull most of their people from the west coast...but other then that I have no idea why they wouldn't take a look at an applicant like them.

I think a 21-22 would be fine for most if not all schools in Ca though

I wish I had your score! lol.. just saw you on predents. 😀 Columbia would have been my top choice if I were you.. either way you are in good shape though. 👍
I KNOW i will apply to USC (hear it was the easiest to get into from out of state) and UCSF (b/c their number of out of state is only 286 and they interviewed 86! could be a typo but i really hope NOT!)
I might apply to Uop, but the 25AA getting rejected is kinda scary to me...I am from NC.

I think you should still apply to UoP ~ the worst that can happen is you don't get in... but you may be surprised. Also, I heard that they look for something UNIQUE in all their applicants... so just make sure you apply EARLY (most important for UoP) and have a kick ass personal statement. Don't get discouraged by statistics - just apply and you never know... you just may be surprised 😀
Best of luck to you:luck:

I really don't think you should be choosing your school based on how easy it is to get into for an out-of-stater. Every school has something attractive about it for somebody, but it seems like you just want to get in anywhere. Try to be an overall excellent applicant and don't worry about a 25 AA rejection. Think of yourself as an individual and don't compare yourself to others. I had a 19 AA (and didn't want to retake the DAT), but other parts of my app were stronger, so I wasn't scared away from applying based on their entry stats. I know it's difficult to choose what schools you apply to, but you should let those statistics be nothing more than a simple comparison and apply to the schools for more than just their numbers.

i think the applying early (as stated before) is a key for UOP

I would say apply early and do something to set yourself apart from everyone else. If you have done alot in life to build your character then they will probably take you over a person with a 25AA that doesnt have a whole lot of depth to them.

Doesnt UoP still do the thing where if you are placed on the alternate list and then a spot doesnt open they guarentee you a spot in the following year's class? I had a friend that did this, but he would be in the fall 2005 class, so they may have stopped the practice. I always thought since UoP was a three year school that it would be cool to work a year and save money, then start D-school the next year and still graduate at the same time that you would have going to any other school.

is Uop the ONLY dental school in America that is 3 years long?

Thats great! good school you get to save money and time! 😀

Not that it really matters now, but I would kind of like to know why I didn't get an interview at UoP. Can you call and ask a school that? It seems kind of arrogant to me.

actually, i think that if you really wanted to know, pacific will tell you. some schools won't but i hear pacific will.

YES, and you should to it and then tell me what they said!! lol...(so I will know what NOT to do!)
I mean I called UNC and ask and Dr. guckles wasn't offend at all. he told me my interview score was too low...he was nice though...

I have an interview in a couple days for their alternate list. Can someone who has interviewed before tell me how many people interview you? Is it a panel or just a single person? Thanks!

nothing like raising a dead thread as your first post....

The interview process at Pacific is very chill and laid back. You'll usually have 2 interviews in which a faculty member and a student will interview you one-on-one. If you haven't looked at SDN's interview feedback I'd highly recommend starting there. Best of luck!

Is the student interviewer usually a second-year student?

yes, usually. Not always. Can be any student except IDS unless you are interviewing for an IDS position.

I got a UOP invite for an alternate list Interview for March 6 yesterday. this school is my number 1 choice so I'm happy I have a chance now, but seriously does anyone know what are the chances of an alternate to get into UOP, do you know anyone who has?

I heard that people who don't get off the alternate spot will guarantee admission the following year. Is that true? any comments?

It does happen. There are no exact figures except with Admissions, and they don't tend to share that info. There are a few every year.

No. There is never a guarantee. And even for those that it is pretty much a guarantee, that doesn't apply to everyone on the alternate list. and again, there is no guarantee.

I just had an interview today for an alternate position. They told me that, on average, roughly 10 people make it off the wait list and into the program.

UOP finally called and offered an alternate position interview. I'm debating whether or not to go; I guess it couldn't hurt, I live a few hours away. But the chances of actually getting in are slim...

You should go, you'll like it.

Yeah, I know I will. I really liked it during the last Pride Day, but I am interviewing for an alternate spot with 100+ other interviewees.

You will get to meet armorshell, that alone should be worth it. 😉

I'm going next week, see you on the 6th armorshell.

i got a call today for uop admission and they said i made the alternate list! yaay! but they won't release your chances or what position you are in until after april 1 since that's when the 2nd deposit is due and they'll have a better idea of how many spots are left. good luck everyone!

Not everybody who interviewed for alternate list made into the alternate list?
I got a call yesterday as well...just have to wait.

Does anyone know if they will be contacting us on/after April 1st, or if we can call them and if so when we can find out our status? I am getting a little anxious over here.

Got home from class and I had the same call, but they were closed by the time I called back.

Hey CONGRATS guys I have to admit I'm a little jealous! 😀

Did your AADSAS status change ?

Got home from class and I had the same call, but they were closed by the time I called back.

My status at the UOP website and AADSAS hasn't changed yet. It still says Alternate and Waitlist.

It's most likely an acceptance. Do you plan to attend UOP if you got in?
