Hello,

My school has a program to pack Narcan kits to donate for a local recovery organization. The work is humbling and enriching, but my only concern with this is that there is a lack of interaction with other people. Would this be a good nonclinical volunteer experience if it was my only nonclincial experience?

Thank you

It would be better to have a volunteer activity where you get out in the streets with people to whom the kits are given or otherwise interact with people who are different from yourself and your peer group.

Packing Narcan kits, like shelving groceries in a food pantry, is a needed service and I'm glad that volunteers are taking those roles but as an adcom, I'd like to see a little something more.

Agreed - not saying don't do it by any means, but I would make sure you do it in combination with direct contact with underserved folks. If you're interested in addiction, is there a syringe exchange program in town? An outreach program that needs some volunteers? A homeless service agency providing addiction support services? Etc.
