Ouch.

Why so few spots for peds surg?

As I asked once, a previous poster responded. One word greed.

People, don't want competition, control over their territory.

I really like Peds, but I personally feel, you need at least 1 or even 2 fellowships prior to even applying to peds.

Seems like a complete waste of human resources to me.

a back-door way to get in- some of these spots (my friend did this) will take you for a research year and then "match" you through the fellowship.

does anyone know what kind of absite scores they are looking for and what other kind of things do they want to see on your application.

i think the numbers are down at least 20% which is better for us that are thinking about the specialty. i wonder how many of those who matched matched on the first try...does anyone know those numbers?

If you do this, make sure they put this in writing.

I have seen people get used and screwed. One year research then, adios. The surgery world is dam cruel; I have learned that from watching others and personal experience, please get it in writing.

Great ABSITE scores and a couple years research seems to be the norm for Peds Surg now.

Kind of surprising that being a US grad really doesn't give you that much of an advantage.

60% US grads matched vs. 50% foreign grads

It is pretty competitive, but those are my kind of odds (and they seem much better than 5-10 years ago).

Think I'll try and bluff my way in... At least there is one more seat at the table now (Vandy).

👍 👍 More power to you!

What system does Surg Onc and Plastics use. I could find their match stats in the NRMP previously posted

Anyone know what some real salary ranges are for peds surgeons? I hear they do pretty well financially, especially considering they are almost all in academics.
