Hi everyone

this is a brief question but it has me freaking out

basically I took an algebra and trig math competency class over the summer and got a C+ (I know, not my best grade but other than this I have decent grades)

This was a class in which I had to pay for 5 credits, however, the class is only shown as a 2-credit class on the transcript when it is calculated into my GPA (this is not a mistake, this is just how it works!)

Since it was only a 2 credit class it did not do much damage to my GPA (my cGPA is a 3.72). I go to Wayne State in Detroit. If anyone else goes to my university-- could you please explain to me why we have to pay for 5 credits if the class will only count towards 2 credits on your transcript? Is is because the class is 4 days a week for 2 hours for each lecture?

Anyways, today I was told (by a fellow pre-med) that AMCAS will count this math class as a 5-credit class and re-calculate my GPA. I don't know if they are BSing me or something; I don't really know how to do the research on this matter. If anyone would be willing to give me feedback on this matter then that'd be great. thanks!

AMCAS will use the number of units that show up on your official transcript. It sounds like you need to call the registrar and clear it up with them.

i suggest you leave it the way it is. A C+ in a 2 credit class will harm your GPA significantly less than a 5 credit class. AMCAS will usually just trust whatever is on your transcript.. which is why it has to be official

Looks like you lucked out! Don't mention it. 5 credits of 2.3/2.5 is worse than 2 credits of 2.3/2.5, as another poster mentioned.
